tipped it over on its side the other day, for about 30 minutes or so. got it back up, let is sit for a day. got it started, seems to be fine. filled radiator and hydraulic fluid as they were both low. the tractor will not drive forward or backwards, and neither the loader nor backhoe will move at all. any advice?

You let it sit for a day. Did you pull the glow plugs or injectors prior to starting?

Sounds like pump could have lost prime, but hard to know for sure with the tip over what else might have happened

Given the tractor was on its side, I’m reluctant to offer advice that could be more deleterious to the machine given the circumstances.

How is the level on the motor oil dipstick?

How “low” was the hydraulic fluid when you filled it? Antifreeze?

Did you see spillage of hydraulic fluid or antifreeze on the ground when it turned?

Howdy, thanks for the reply.

since it started back up next day without issues, I did not bother to check the glow plugs or injectors.
did not think those would affect the hydraulics. but I am just a end user, not a mechanic :)
motor oil was perfect. hydraulic fluid at the transmission was low about 2 quarts, but I did not see any spillage. could have been like t hat, just bought it in Sept. Antifreeze did leak out, added about 1 quart to that.

Is there a way for me to prime the pump? that's what I thought it might be, but again, no mechanic here.

this summer I change the hyd oil (UDT). All I did was drain it,install new filter, cleaned the 'screen', add a lot of oil, start the engine and it's been fine since then....
I don't know if you could get an 'air lock'.
Kinda curious...you had to add 2 qts of oil...did you see that it came out ?
will follow this as a 'need to know'.....

did not see anything leak during or after the tipping, other than antifreeze. i will def do a pump test thanks

This is not directly related to your current problem. I only offer it as an explanation of my previous post.

One of the biggest issues with tipping a tractor over is that fluids can end up in places they don’t belong.

There’s many possibilities in the engine, hydraulic, and cooling systems.

Engines are primary concern if fluids in the combustion chambers bend rods or damage the pistons.

Hopefully you can figure out the hydraulic issue.

The bx transmission is self contained so if you didn't see it leak out then there is nowhere else for it to go. 2 qts low is not good. I assume power steering isnt working either? Don't hear much about these loosing prime as the pickup tube is so short but i suppose its possible. A little trick that usually works is take a rag and air hose, wrap the nozzle with the rag and blow a little air in the fill port of the transmission with it running. You dont want to run it long without hydraulic fluid moving as it can damage the hydrostat

How long did the tractor run on its side before you shut it off? If long and pump didn’t get any oil you could have damaged it.

did not run long, maybe 3 min. could not shut it off with the key.
stayed on its side for about 30 minutes, but tractor was off.

I will give that a try! I guess the hydro pump could be shot. How do I test it>

A note to remember. When a machine is laid on its side, once set upright wait for all fluids to seep to proper locations (longer time the better). Before trying to start engine remove glow plugs or injectors and try to hand crank. This allows any fluids that got onto the top of the pistons to be blown off and out of the cylinder before there is compression.

When an engine is turned over without the release of the possible oil in the cylinder a bent rod or other damage can occur. Once a rod is bend the compression is lowered on that cylinder and could cause non-starting issues.

Start it up and look under the tractor and see if this fan is spinning.
If it's not you've done some damage to the propeller shaft or the propeller shaft drive.

Three minutes is quite a while to run on it's side.

My apologies I was reluctant to offer advice. There's just so many possible issues at hand with this chain of events.

I REALLY didn't want to give bad advice that could cause more damage. That's not helpful at all....

Trust me, I very much hope you can get everything back to working order easily. Please keep us apprised as you proceed.

If the fan on the HST is spinning, then check the quick disconnects on the BH, disconnect it and by pass it as you would if it was not on the tractor.

finally had time to get under the tractor. broken prop shaft! is this a tough replacement, and should I just bring it to the dealer?

good news ,bad news. At least now we KNOW why 'engine runs, nothing else'. Providing you're mechanically minded, reasonably fit, have a garage with good lighting and patience it 'shouldn't' be too hard to replace. Others will know. You can download the WSM from Kubotabooks.com for free. propeller shaft #010 is only $115 CDN. Should get another fan #140 if any damage ?

Gonna need pictures. I'm having difficulty reconciling how a tipover breaks a driveschaft.
