I'm trying to put together a B6000 "basket-case" and am running into a number of problems that I hope some of you can help with. I bought the full set of Kubota manuals (Operators, Illustrated Parts List and Service) for the tractor, but am finding they make a Chilton's manual look like the Encyclopedia Britannica! Just one example. The Service Manual gives head bolt torques, but gives no torquing sequence! Is anyone aware of a more complete/comprehensive set of tech data for this tractor?

Secondly, my local Kubota dealer has been very helpful, but says they can't get most of the parts for this tractor anymore. I've seen a lot of B6000 "talk" on this forum, so it seems there must be a source of parts somewhere. Does anyone have a recommended source(s) for B6000 parts?

Thank you for the help.

Depending on what you need there are parts out there thru the dealer. I have gotten wiring harness, glow plugs etc. My dealer has been great at locating out of stock stuff for me. He located the harness from out west in Arizona/New Mexico from a NOS/surplus place. Keep an eye on E-bay/craigslist, too.

As far as the torque sequence I don't have my manual handy to check, but someone here will most likely chime in.

Welcome aboard and glad to have you!

Hi HpaG . You can try West Kentucky tractor parts. wktp.com They are a salvage yard with lots of Kubota stuff. Also try Messicks, you will see their ad on this site some where. And maybe service dept Vic will spot this post and he may have something or know where to look.:D Dusty

Fortunately, my local dealer found the head bolt torquing sequence for me, in some hand written notes from a Kubota mechanics class, not in the Service Manual. I was just using that as an example of how woefully inadequate I've found the Kubota tech data for this tractor, so far. My example of Chilton's manuals was because I think of them as great for folks who think they want to work on something, but don't really do it. "Perfect" aids would be like what Mr. K and Service Department Vic do on this site, but it probably isn't realistic to expect that from most tech data. I'm just hoping someone has found something better out there.

As far as parts go, my dealer is willing to look, but says he can't get most things through Kubota. When he does, such as the little air cleaner to intake manifold gasket, the prices seem exorbitant (e.g. $12); I'll just make my own gasket for that from a sheet of gasket material. He says shipping costs are just going up and up (the West coast Kubota distribution center is only an hour away) and even though I often go past the distribution center, Kubota policy won't let me pick something up. I am hoping somebody has found some other regular part sources for the B6000.

Possibly the "problem" with parts is that the B6000 just isn't old enough yet and there weren't enough imported. I can get virtually anything for my old 9N Ford, from several sources, but the volume of parts needed for those must be enough to justify after-market parts production.

Thanks for the input and I'm glad to be "aboard" as this is a great site.

any major parts for a B6000 will be take offs from one being scrapped.

some places have starters and alternators from other machines which fit. (check Ebay)
here is where I get my info for kubota parts. WWW.yenibiz.com

although this is from belgium, you can find out what is available, and use this to find part numbers, and to see what the parts look like. just make sure you select the parts section, the kubota section, then your b6000 to drill down to the correct parts.

I haven't forgotten your request for the head bolt torquing sequence, I'm just currently "technologically stumped". My dealer sent the info to me as a sketch in an email, and so far I have been unable to figure out how to get that posted on the forum so anyone who might need it would have it available. I tried to send an appeal for "help" to Mr. K, but since I haven't heard anything back, I think I must have "botched" that too. I will keep trying though.

Ok, are you ready for this. It's a round about way to turn what YOU see on your computer screen into a picture.

Print these instructions
Note: Print only my post as follows-Highlight all of my text, right click on the highlit area, select print.
When the print window opens you should find a choice for "Selection" maybe to the left, click that and then hit print.
For Firefox users: After highlighting go up to "File" on the browser, scroll down and click on "Print" The same window will open and you can click on "Selection". It will only print what is highlighted.

1) Open the attachment. Is it in word, note pad or anything else? It doesn't matter, just open it and have the window large so it fills the screen.

2) Look around your keyboard and find the "Print Screen" key. It's normally along the Fkeys up top and all the way to the right, next to scroll lock.

3) Press the "Print Screen" key (only one time!)

4) Open Paint: Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> Paint

5) With Paint open look at the selection on the top. Click on "EDIT" then click on "Paste"

6) You should now be looking at you torque sheet in paint.

7) Again on the top click on "File" -> "Save As"

8) The save window will open.

9) Typ in the name you want then right below that click the small arrow
next to "Save As" Scroll down and click on "JPEG"

10) Before you hit the final "Save" go to the top of the little window and
Click the small arrow for "Save In" and select "Desktop"

11) Finally go and hit the "Save" Button on the little window.

12) Close Paint, your done.

13)Go to your Desktop and it should be there, open it and it will now open
as an image.

14) Go back to Orange Tractor Talks and Reply to the post and attach the
image.

It seems like a long way, but after you do it the first time it goes really fast. Most forums don't like to allow people to attach anything other than an image since other stuff can contain nasty distructive codes. So we have to convert it to an image for everybody to easily see instead emailing a thousand people.

GpaG,
Let's take this one step further. Hopefully you were able to get the image of the screen shot made by following the previous instructions. Now looking at your new image you might want to clean it up, like getting rid of any extra screen image that made it around the borders.

1) Minimize all of your open windows by pressing the windows "flag" key (bottom left of keyboard normally located between "Cntrl" and "Alt") and the letter "M" key at the same time. "Windows Flag & M", If you just press the flag key the start menu will pop up, not what you want

2) Viewing your desktop, right click on the image you made

3) From the drop down menu slide down to "Open Wtih"

4) Slide the mouse over to the right and hopefully you should find "Microsoft Picture Manager". Click on that to open.

5) The program will open with your image in view. Right click on the image and scroll down to "Edit Pictures", Click on that.

6) A new menu opens most likely to the right. Look for the "Crop" option and click on it.

7) Look back at your image around its borders and you will see little black bars. Hover the mouse over one, left click and hold then slide it so that it removes the area you want removed.

8) Made a mistake and remove too much? Go up to the top of the window and click on "Edit" then click on "Undo Crop"

9) If you want to resize the image to make it smaller, right click again on the image and select "Edit Pictures" one more time. Look at the new menu of options and locate "Resize". Click on it to select.

10) Here there are several options but you will chose the one labled as "Percent of original"

11) There will be two little arrows, click and hold on the bottom one and it will begin scrolling for you and you can also see the numbers actively changing to show the size. Stop when you want and click on "OK" to see what it will look like.

12) Don't like how it might have gone to small? Look up at the top to the right of File and click on "Edit" then scroll down and click on "Undo Resize".

13) When you are done with the final product go to the "File" selection up top and click on it then select "Save". Close the program and you are done.

Now you can go back to Orange Tractor Talks and attach the image to your post.

[B]Bad news on the head bolt torque sequence I was able to find from some old Kubota training notes my dealer gave me. Either somebody was asleep when they took the notes, or it is for a different engine! The sequence I was given is for a head with 10 "bolts". When I got my rocker cover off today I was shocked to see the head has 9 bolts and 2 studs! Although the torque sequence isn't given in the Service Manual, it does say "11 bolts". Until we can come up with better data the best I can suggest is to follow the rule of thumb of beginning in the middle and "spiraling" from there out to all the fasteners. The Service Manual says the bolts/nuts on the studs are to be torqued to 6-6.5 Kg-M, which I think is 43-47 Lb-Ft (2.205 Lb per Km and 3.281 Ft per Meter). The Service Manual also stresses doing the torquing in increments, not fully torquing each bolt before going on to the next bolt, which I'm sure is common knowledge. I usually like to do it in 3 increments, finally going round and round on the full torque setting until I get no movement on any bolt. Although time consuming, that has served me well on a many engines. The Service Manual also states that valve clearances need to be checked after the head has been torqued.

I was all set to put Scott/Trail Dusts great set of step-by-step instructions to work, but now that I know the torque sequence image is not right, I'll have to wait for a future opportunity!

Thanks to all for the ideas you all have given for finding B6000 parts. My immediate concern is for engine overhaul parts, as I suspect the engine is quite worn. I'm not finding anyone who has much for the ZL600 engine and my dealer says he can only get a few of the parts. I'll know when/if I can get it running if I'm in trouble or not! I'm still in the tear-down, familiarize and clean up mode.

OH NO! What a serious bummer about the diagram :(

As far as waiting to try the technique I posted, don't wait. Go ahead and try it now just for the heck of it. You can even do the "Print Screen" of this web page you are reading right now. Go ahead and give it a shot and like all tools once you get the hang of using this one you will wonder how you did with out it.

Take care,
Scott

You guys are a great help. I went out this evening to double check, but my motor definitely has 11 head bolts (9 bolts and two studs), all with washers ( motor number ZL600-062722). The Service Manual I got from my Kubota dealer for the B6000 states the following on page 12, sub-paragraph entitled "Tightening of cylinder head" :

"The tightening torque of the cylinder head nut is 6~6.5 kg-m. Only two of the eleven bolts used are stud bolts. - - - "

I went out and took a picture of the tractor's head with the rocker cover off, oriented per Vic (e.g radiator on the left and flywheel on the right) and I also made up a sketch. I know I should have done as Trail Dust encouraged, and tried his instructions right away, but I didn't. Tomorrow I will give it a go and try to post both the picture and sketch of the tractor head.

Thanks

Here is the sketch I made of the head bolts on my ZL600 (#062722). Hope this helps.
Hi GpaG, It looks great! Seems like your getting the hang of screen prints, extremely handy computer tool.

And that sketch you did, very impressive!

Am I the only one that came up short on that post by Vic on 2/18?

Maybe can you run through this one more time using a numbered diagram? I've attached one that sort goes off what your list says, if we could only add up to the same number of bolts. Locations 7 & 8 were noted as studs, not head bolts.

Also, any idea if the head bolts and head studs require the same torque values?

Hello, I'm sorry to highjack this topic, but since I found a B6000E I'm interested in I was thinking maybe you'd all like a look and give me your opinon as to what it might be worth. I'm not going to post the asking price.

Please let me know if you see anything wrong with it. (Besides the color)

Hi

I have actually seen quite a few (5-6) the same colour green kubota's here in Australia. So it seems a little common. I reckon it maybe something like a company like zetor brought a heap of kubota's and painted them all green. It may have even been done at the factory?

Would be interesting to know? Maybe someone else might be able to shed some light on it. All the ones I have seen have all been B6000's.

As to what its worth - hard to say - many will knock it because it has a CCW pto. But smart guys know this isn't a handicap.

cheers john
