is it possible your computer has built in wifi?Hey guys a question, I found a network on my computer and I have no idea what it is! So the network is NTGR VMB with a bunch of numbers after it. I am plugged right in to the modem and not the wifi. Anybody have a clue what this might be ?
NOT IF YOU DO AS I SAID ABOVE, repeated below in bold printSo if I have this right this wifi camera is piggy backing off my wfi?
Any wifi within signal distance will show along with signal strength, whether it is secure or open. All you need to worry about is having your connection password protected to prevent those other folks using it.
Are you yelling at me ?NOT IF YOU DO AS I SAID ABOVE, repeated below in bold print
No,I'm simply highlighting the answer to make it less likely to be missed a second time. I totally understand why you are uncomfortable thinking strangers have access to your computer. Are you yelling at me ?
Yelling or screaming in computer language is all capital letters, not bold letters. Bold letters are to direct your attention to the subject matter being discussed. Are you yelling at me ?
Test after hiding the SSID. Some devices (older phones, ROKU, cameras etc.) do not connect to hidden SSID networks. Just test each device after you hide the SSID to be sure all devices work. Also, some devices will not reconnect to a hidden SSID after the device is restarted so check that too.If changing things in the router like passwords, you can also hide/disable the SSID broadcast. That is, the wifi does not "advertise" that it exists. The only way you connect to it is you have to know the name of the wifi first, enter it into your laptop "connect to" wifi menu, and then use your password to connect.
