I just ordered a Westinghouse 12.5KW tri-fuel generator, from Home Depot.
Does anybody have one of these, or know anything about them?
It is a steel sleeved engine, and it does have nearly all good reviews.
I thought the price (with mil. disc.) was excellent, at $1098 incl. tax.
I can still change my mind, as it will take a week for delivery to store.

I don't have a dual or tri-fuel Westinghouse, but I have a smaller unit (WGen3600C) which is a 3600 watt (4650 Surge) unit. I use it to power fans, lights, battery charger, etc....at my 'shooting shed'.

I didn't want to put my good Yamaha unit down there. I have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the unit. VERY easy to start, runs smoothly, power output is as advertised.

Not as quiet as my Yamaha but not overly noisy especially when I place it 25' behind the shed. When we are shooting skeet we have no problem hearing one another talk at normal levels.

It is reasonably fuel efficient (for the model). I did a LOT of research on it (and others) and decided on the Westinghouse. It has been quite reliable.

There is really not much between the name on the equipment and the corporation name that you recall. The Westinghouse name is the same but nothing is built by a defunct corporation.

I have the 12000/15000 straight gas version and have no complaints. I only have about 10 hours on it ver the last two years. I went larger so I could get hot water and my well pump. Too old for cold showers when the hurricanes and ice storms take the power out for day/weeks.

Looks like a Chinese POS to me...
^^^^

Before you are too quick to disparage products made in China (or elsewhere overseas) recognize that they are capable of making some really good stuff.

The difference between Chinese JUNK and decent products... lies with the specifications for the product and quality control.

I would not argue that many Chinese products (when left to the devices of the Chinese) are indeed pure junk.

On the other hand, when built to specifications, products can be quite good. Westinghouse generators are engineered in the USA and built to 'specs' in Vietnam (and some in China). They have a fairly good reputation.

I am admittedly a bit of product quality 'snob'. My generators being, Honda, Yamaha and Briggs & Stratton Elite.

I really wasn't expecting too much from my last purchase (WGen 3600) but knew it would see limited service.

I have been more than happy with it. It is not an expensive unit and while I would not use it daily or even for hundreds of hours in a year, it is far from a 'POS'.

I am virtually certain that it is Asian (maybe Vietnamese?), But it does seem to have very good reviews.
Mine was made in Vietnam. It is much higher quality than the price suggests. Currently the Westinghouse gensets are selling briskly for just this reason.

Thank you!
That is very helpful.

I have a 6500W OHV water cooled Honda, but that seems to have migrated to my younger son's place.
I also have a 3500W Porter Cable, but it will only just barely run my 1HP 220V water pump.
I simply want something for potential hurricanes, and utility brown out.
There is no Winter time need!
I do have natural gas, but probably will just use gasoline, and drain it..

I plan to put the generator in a barn 600' away, and backfeed, so noise will not be an issue.
I ordered tri-fuel because I am nearly 84, and my other son (currently without generator) also has natural gas.

I think HD $1098 incl. tax (with VA discount) was a good price.
Then too: Saved an additional 2% with my VISA cash back.

I mean, if you want cheap - go big! :):) Order the same POS from Ali Express:

Even Harbor Freight (a company well known for high-quality, long-lasting, investment-grade tools and equipment) can't match the CHEAP of that Westinghouse unit!

...

POS until proven otherwise. These are quite literally the cheapest gensets available here. You'd have a tough time convincing me that 'specifications' under control of 'USA Engineers' go much beyond the landed cost...

I bought one from Home Depot probably 8 or 9 years ago and it's been a good generator. Like most of them only used when the power goes out, gas only with 198 hours on it but so far it's been great, loud but great. It's a 7500/9000 I believe.

Hopefully you are going to shave one of the Zero's off of that figure.

60 feet instead of 600 feet?

That would be a LONG way and would require some very large cable to prevent voltage loss.

Presumably the GenSet has a NEMA 14-50R receptacle (50 amp).

Yes,.......the gen set has a 50A receptacle
Not shaving a zero off though!
I direct buried 600' of copper 2/0 cable 30+ years ago.
It currently has a 100A service entrance box, ( used as a sub panel from 200A) and all has been been working just fine, though I have never loaded it to the full 100A.

2/0 cable good for 200amp. Should be no issues with voltage drop.

Did you bury the wire in conduit or was it a direct burial wire? Copper or aluminum? Copper is the new gold standard!
