Hi all,

I am in Canada and wondering why there aren't listed MSRPs for anything? I feel like I keep having to ask the local dealer for prices on an ad hoc basis, and it is hard to get a straight answer that I can compare across models and across dealers.

How do I know if the price I am being offered is good or even close to the best that I could get?

Lastly, what should the price difference be between a straight cash deal or a finance @ 0.0% deal?

1) it's just a 'marketing' ploy to get you into the dealers , or call them....

2) you could 'build it in the USA', convert into CDN bucks , and get an 'idea' of price

3) zero. you 'dicker for YOUR price THEN say you'll take 0% financing. There's no difference though in the cost of the tractor BUT since it is financed ,you'll have to pay for KTAC ( insurance..).

Not that this will help - but in the old days you could pay cash and get typically $500 off something that cost 22K .......

My philosophy is this - Kubota will make money on the 0% and they will still make money on if CASH is offered - BUT, and this is a huge BUT, why the hell would you NOT take the zero% ????

OK - farmer Bill has loads of money, he can drop $25K in a heartbeat, but if a payment is going to be at 0% - the average person that WOULD have cash would STILL have the cash in hand - hell, that person could place the cash in a CD and roll it over to pay the payment and still come out ahead. Or make the payment and place the cash in stock or bonds over the 5-6 years and still be ahead!

I love paying cash - too me cash is king - but IF I can borrow money at ZERO% for 5-6 years, you bet your ass I will do it!!!!

Now - we get into the Kubota insurance, with cash you will not need it - that I get - if that comes into play and you can cover your machine without it then maybe bypassing the loan IS a good idea.

I bought my BX25D at 0% - for 5 years back in 2013 - hell I almost enjoyed making that "car" payment ..... I did say almost!

When I bought a new L3902 HST last week there was no discount for paying cash after enquiring about it. However, the dealer did say there was a $2000.00 cash discount available for MX's and most likely higher for models above that.

There really is "no free lunch"!
Kubota will collect essentially same total revenue either way.
The "0" % is a marketing gimmick, to incentify buyers.
Stuck with essentially no meaningful choice,.... the 0% can/does make sense.

Like anything shop around. Remember you want a local dealer with parts and service for YOU in the long run.

If you finance dealers don't budge on list price. Dealers don 't have to make payments for machines until they've been sitting on their lot for 24 months. Buy with cash at the end of the month with a desperate sales guy not meeting quota. Better yet buy at the end of the business year end to see how much they want to negotiate.

I always ask for the following items to be included with my purchase: two complete sets of filters and fluids, first 50 hour service included, a steering wheel spinner, WSM and owners manual in PDF on a memory stick, and a hat for my troubles. Get an air ride seat and max number of front and rear remotes plus any other feature you really want...cry once because you'll cry more down the road when you finally want to add these features and discover prices have shot up.

I agree with the above, however, my dealer told me I just needed 'insurance' because I was financing it....Just like a car.

She told me that I could bring my own insurance if I wanted, or roll with KTAC. Either way was fine with them.

I chose KTAC.

One reason is that YOU do NOT own the tractor, until the loan is paid in full...
and you cannot sell it,until loan is paid off
Nuther, you now have a 'red mark' on your credit report( you owe big...)
also, it may reduce you ability to get higher credit ( you owe big )

ANY investment ,other than a GIC, can LOSE your investment(BTDT HUGE mistake ). The market tanks, you've LOST. Buying the tractor outright, it IS yours. Nobody..bank, finance, Wall Street can take it from you.

BTW I got a very good cash deal six years ago when I bought my BX23S

True - you do not own it till paid in full - but the idea of selling cannot be in the mix of buying !

I had a friend that INSISTED that a buddy should NOT but a 2wd truck ....... he reasoning was - "when you come to sell it, you will not get very much for it!" - I told my friend, buy the 2wd, 99.99% you will not need 4wd (all hard surface) ...... he paid 4K less than the new 4wd truck, and to my knowledge has not sold it!
He did get the locking rear end however!

Red mark on credit? If you are making payments every month - big or small you credit is getting better all the time!

I bought my 2502 in September and paid cash. I worked with 4 different dealers and all had a cash verses financing price. It was $3K less to pay in cash.

Seems as though you were willing to spend the time/effort for pricing due diligence.
Others,....apparently not so much!

Yeah, I had 4 dealers within an hour of me and planned to work them against each other for my business. It worked out well. I even informed them up front what I was doing. (y)

So you finance for 6 years... 2 years in an 'emergency' happens (maybe medical ?) and you NEED to sell assets to get cash.

the 'red mark' is when you try to get a mortgage( or renew ) , whatever you OWE on the tractor reduces your credit 'limit'. One reason not to have a high limit on your credit card(s).

While I understand the possibility of bad things happening ....... it would be the same as saying I will NOT have windows in my house - because a rock "may" break them!

The money that you would have SPENT on the tractor if cash was paid would be TIED up in the tractor ...

IF you financed it and had the cash from the get go - you would still have the cash in hand if you needed it!

Unless - Like you did, you get a hellva break paying cash, ZERO is still zero!! Now once we start compounding the ol interest and whatnot and get up there 3-4-5 % - I would look at cash myself!

I suspect you would be right, kubota sells the tractor for a set price to the dealer and offers a MSRP. It’s up to the dealer to set their actual sale price of the tractor to the customer. Cash discounts provided by the dealer and financing tools provided by the manufacturer, along with dealer experience in their market likely determine the price and/or discounts 🤷‍♂️

In the US there remain discounts, and the easiest one to get is the equine discount:

Canada has a discounts page. It appears to be empty.

This random dealer site in Canada lists some discounts that look kind of official.

It's not just Kubota. I am pricing out several other brands of tractors now that Kubota doesn't offer exactly what I want. I am finding usually up to a 3k difference between dealers for the same brand and model. Some dealers will also throw in things like loading tires and warranty transportation. I am finding there's no negotiation after the initial quote if a dealers price seems out of line even with lots full of machines that aren't moving.
I find paying cash upfront is a $2k to $3k savings and it keeps my credit score in the top range saving me quite a bit on homeowners and car insurance. So far with all the discounts, insurance, and perks I will be coming out ahead with cash and won't be stuck paying capital gains on the investment income that puts me way ahead.

I am looking for a under 26hp, cab with air, 2 rear remotes, 3rd function cast iron axles, larger tires for under 40k out the door. Waited for the LX2620 to arrive at my dealer but it was a disappointment to me and didn't like that big new drive pedal. Really something like the L2502 with a factory cab is what I want. Actually parts inventory and reliability are getting better everyday on off brands. Baltimore Bridge collapse is getting back to normal and problem machines seem to be rare now.
As for resale, from what I have been watching tractor sales are down and used pricing is dependent on having a buyer with the money. Many Kubotas and other brands look to be going cheap at the local auctions. I no longer have confidence in Kubota support ability after what I recently went through with my last purchase and am comparing them all now instead of just buying the brand with no other shopping as in the past. I started with Deere, switched to Kubota and still don't know what's next but getting close.
