The good old days. I have put thousands of hours on open station tractors farming. Back when I was getting started and was buying farms I farmed with everyone's cast offs for tractors. I couldn't afford a cab and AC. Working ground and planting in the spring with a heat houser and coveralls on one day freezing and baking the next. Put hay up all summer in the heat and dirt. Have feed a lot of cattle with a open station tractor at twenty below and fifty below wind chill. Not fun hauling round bales at that temp and no cab. First cab I had was on a JD 4020 that was my loader tractor. It was a aftermarket steel box square cab that I put a heater in it. No AC. Sure beat being out in the cold. I would take windows and doors off in the summer as it was my baler tractor back then. I had farmed close to twenty years before I had a cab with a AC in it. JD 4240 was the first one I had. No thanks not giving up my big cabbed tractors. My MX6000 open station has its place on this farm and I put a fair amount of hours on it a year but were not giving up cabs around here. We have power washers and window cleaner here at the farm.

Wow. Reminds me why NZ is the lowest cost producer of animal protein in the world (lowest carbon too). Because we just don't get those extremes. Every day is an open station day. Middle of winter I might see zero with a frost, but usually I just need a jumper. Middle of summer we get some days nearly 30 degrees (aka mid 80s). I wear a hat so the sun doesn't get on me too much. It's only really the rain that's a problem.

Our stock stay in the field year round, and most of them are grass fed. Maybe a bit of hay or silage in winter.

I like skiing. I sometimes think I'd like snow so I could have a snow blower. But the weather you guys work in is ridiculous, I think I'd just like the snow once or twice, not half the year.

New Zealand is a beautiful country for sure.

NW Montana has a good climate with low humidity and reasonable summer temperatures, but we don't get much rain up here so the grass is only green for a month or so unless it's irrigated. This means that mowing, mulching or cutting is typically a dusty affair. Winters aren't that bad here to be honest, but there's just no comparison pushing or blowing snow from inside a warm and comfortable cab on a really cold day.

I was at the local dealer this morning looking at my new folding cutter and they have quite a lot of inventory, including an L3902 sitting next to a bunch of L6060 cab models and an L3302. They have cabbed and open station MX6000s and MX5400s too.

@Moose7060, let me know if you want me to put your name on one! 😂

Sure appreciate your assistance! Actually took my wife today to the dealer and he let her drive one around the lot, and I told her it was for her. :) Did not go with turf tires but did go with the loader. Will make final decision on Monday.

Going to dealerships whether tractors or trucks always reminds me of the old joke "why do men like women in leather pants? Smells like new truck!

Ha! Ha! Looking forward to seeing you new tractor, or your wife's for that matter. :) That L3902 is a nice tractor for sure and no doubt you'll really enjoy it.

Good to see that you decided against turf tires and also that you included a loader. I don't currently use the loader much on my M6060 but I sure as heck would not have bought it without one.

Well after a bit of humming and hawing I pulled the trigger and ordered a new L3902 HST. Will be ready in a week or two as they wait for the cruise control kit to arrive and have it installed. Will be having R4's put on as well as a quick hitch. As per everyone's advice a loader as well. Picked up a 8 foot chain harrow while I was in the spending mode. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.

Awesome! Are you going to have Rim Guard added to the rear tires?

New machine delivered today. Love the cab on my M7060 but I sure enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine while familiarizing myself with it. Will really enjoy using it while doing work around the acreage and when cutting the pastures

Very nice! (y) Two is one, one is none!
Moved all the attachments to the other equipment shed, now there is a lonely, empty bay beside the 7060. Way too soon to approach the missus about a third

Seems if you can afford a whole new machine, you can afford a proper set of pallet forks!!

Congratulations!
Nice machine!
Wouldn't a mesh grille guard be a good idea?

Out of interest, what would a third one look like? Bigger, smaller, a mini excavator .... ? :giggle:

Most likely resemble a 3pt aerator. Anything with wheels will involve a divorce lawyer most likely.
