Heck, I used to take 3 very small kids to a farm pond to fish. Kids were only 4 or 5 at first.

Pond was in a summer pasture for 30 or so heifers and several steers. They were always very curious..

My guest sent this to me this morning, it's their responsibility to keep their items out of reach and put up. I noticed that back pack the day before. And of course it's Moca, she is the most curious cow I have, she is very smart, hopefully she remains innocent enough for her to have access on this side of the property.

under contract, buyers ordered home inspection for Friday. Woot.

Yesterday after work my neighbor dairy farmer/maple producer stopped.

He asked “I might be crazy but do you mind if I add another 40 or so taps?”

Maple season is about done but sap is still running. Syrup is dark and has been. I think he gets a decent price/lb. for commercial syrup. Was about $3/# years ago.

Of course I had no problem with it. He’ll leave some of the tubing up to be ready next season.

Nice young man of 40 or so. Glad to have him here.

With some other additions, makes about 200 taps on our place. I get paid $1/tap.

Seems odd to have taps put in this late, but we’re glad to help.

Some of this will stay up with taps removed

All together we probably have a few thousand feet of tubing scattered about.

He take all this tubing down as there’s a power company ROW through this area.

Put a new lock on my gate. The wire finally gave out. That wire is tight enough no one tries to get in. It takes a pretty good amount of pressure to release the two wires over the gate post. The lever is a piece of hedge.

We used similar, minus the lever. Used mending wire for the loops, so no barbs.

Nifty. Just looking at top loop, can tell that's REAL tight! Probably snap our locust posts.....

Our older Holsteins weren't too rough on fences, so gates didn't have to be real tight.

Also allowed my brother and I to open/close the gates when we were little tykes to let tractors/wagons or cows through.

Friend just sold his holstein dairy last year. He's learning Black Angus are much more challenging to keep inside fences. He's been around cows all of his 60 years.

Typically if cattle have food, water and some companionship they'll stay in a group and calm. When "cowboys" make loud noises or dust cattle get spooked, have to stay calm and cattle stay calm!

Lots of the farmers and ranchers around here, prefer a mostly Angus breed cow then paired a Hereford bull. That gives off a black baldy.

Helped my neighbor last year, we picked up this hereford bull to run with their cows. They paid like $2200 for JP.

Years ago, any retired dairy farmer in my area that got into beef had Hereford stock.

I think the Angus promotions last 20 years have changed that. Anything Black (or Red) sells a lot better. NCBA certainly has been behind that for the benefit of the producers.

Seldom see white-faced Herefords anymore, except for the purpose @Siesta Sundance is looking for.

My "beef guy" has been into Highland crosses for a while. His Dad started that before he passed at a young age a few years ago. Again, retired dairy farmer that got into the beef market.

He's been working on Simmental crosses now. I think the beef we got a couple weeks ago is a Highland x Simmental.

That's not a very good picture from that angle. This is a little better. There is a light snow on his back. Never any aggression. If any cattle cause me any trouble, getting out, being aggressive, trouble makers, they get a ride to town next sale day!
