Howdy! I received notice from my dealer today that my long anticipated BH92 has arrived. Has anyone installed one of these units on an MX tractor yourself, rather than paying the dealer to do it? Does it come with good install manual? I had a BH77 on a previous tractor, and removed it for sale...it seemed pretty straightforward. Any feedback?

I assume you mean installing the subframe onto the tractor? Or just attaching the BH92 to the already-installed subframe?

I would let the dealership do the installation. If anything goes wrong and you did the installation, then they might not want to warranty it for you. You might be a better qualified general mechanic than the person at the dealership, but he is supposed to be "Kubota" trained to do it correctly the first time every time. You could ask if they would allow you to observe the process, and that way you will be better educated for any future repairs.

Depends upon how mechanically inclined you are and what you have for tools including jacks. Rear wheels need to come off in order to install the subframe plates. Hydraulic fittings and lines need to be installed. My BH-65 that I bought slightly used and installed myself on my used B2920, came with complete installation instructions that Kubota provides. Below is a link to Kubotabooks.com for installation instructions for a BH-77 which is the only one that is available on there. Not the same model but gives you an idea of what they provide and what you would need to do. BUT, as others mentioned, if it is a new tractor and new backhoe, it might be better to have the dealer install it so if anything goes wrong afterwards, they assume the blame and makes it easier on the warranty issue.

Have you asked the dealer for a price on the installation? Hard to weigh the pros and cons of you versus them without knowing what they would charge.

Done it several times with bh92. The worst part is the weight. Second is the cross fitting above the control valve/rear diff. It is not bad, just heavy, and messy. I would say go for it if your asking...

The tractor is not new, and long out of warranty. The backhoe is brand new, on the shipping crate. Salesman estimates $1k for install. I have all the tools needed, and have taken the complete BH77 off my old tractor, so somewhat familiar. Probably be a lot easier to make the decision if I had the complete install manual available before I went and picked up the Bh. Thanks for the help!

How long did it take you for the first time you installed a BH92?

Talk to the Service Manager about getting a copy of the install manual. Every backhoe comes with one, so there has to be a spare or two floating around the service department. Be upfront and tell him why you are thinking and more than likely he will help you out. Who knows, he might take you over to the guy that does them and that fellow might give you a few tips that will help you.
When I was contemplating a cab for my BX23S I got a copy of the install instructions from Curtis by email. I printed the PDF, read it, and decided that it was worth it to have the dealer do the installation.

Prob full day if all 3 kits are in the crate. You need to uncrate everything, with them placed close to the machine. Then take the wheels off the back, suggest a side at a time. The factory loader bracket is replaced by the new bh subframe. The hydraulics require the seat pan lifted. I believe it is a 1-1/16 wrench you need for the cross over tube removal. Once the subframe, and hydraulic loop have been added you drive up to the de-crated(crate sides removed) bh, and lift it to the tractor with the hydraulic loop. Will take unhooking a few times to get straight the first time. Then you can lift and place the dipper stick on the boom. It is pretty self explanatory. Heavy parts, so help is a must for positioning parts. The BH subframe is easiest to install with the front single bolt loose, and lift the rear into place by sliding bolts in as it is lifted.

Freak,

thanks for the awesome reply! I got an electric comply of the install manual from the dealer, and it doesn’t look too terrible. You mentioned if “all three kits are in the crate”. What three different kits should I be looking for? Thanks for the help!

The main backhoe frame/boom separated dipper will be in a large crate. The two main subframes are a large flat crate(specific to the BH model), and then there will be a finishing kit (hoses, small brackets of some sort) specific to tractor model. Buckets are separate, and many options available. I have posted in the bucket threads... If you have a cab, they will want you to buy the spacers as well, that extend the bh92. I have them for my machine, I never put them on. I'm 5'8" and didn't need them. It really doesn't give you much except more back room. I did not use them because it decreases the approach angles for the rear of the machine. I took my bh92 from my open station gl60 when I upgraded to a cab gl60.
