I read in the forum that Kubota tractors have a built in over run clutch. Is that true? I have a L3710 GST.

It has independent pto which effectively does what an overrunning clutch does for older tractors (help prevent mower pushing tractor through side of barn or off a cliff 😲 ) I assume that's why you asked.

That’s exactly why I asked. I guess I don’t need to buy one then

Thanks, Bob

From everything I could gather the GST models in that L series have the standard transmission driven PTO with an overrunning clutch. It seems that manual and HST models could be had with independent PTO but they do not have an overrunning clutch.

Your L3710GST can be equipped one of two ways Independent PTO or Non Independent PTO.
If it has Independent PTO it has a hydraulic clutch that does not require an overrunning clutch.
If it has Non Independent PTO is has a overrunning clutch build into it.

All the info I can find on the L3710 GST is that it has an independent PTO.

As much as I hate to use parts manuals as a reference, this snip from the parts lookup indicates that the GST models were available w/o ind-pto. It is strange that it does not show a mid case for GST with ind-pto, but the WSM shows in the transmission schematic a reference to supply to the independent pto.

Probably the easiest way to tell is to look at the pto shift cable and what it attaches to. If it connects to a lever and shaft through the side of the case it is nit ind-pto if it attaches to a valve bolted into the case then it is ind-pto.

As a side topic Wolfman, have you ever seen a GST L-series optioned with an independent PTO? I must have looked at dozens of them in the past and never came across one. It led me to the impression that the independent PTO was only an option for a gear drive L-series.

I can't say I have, you could be right it might have only been available on the DT's.

Really fast way to tell is with the tractor off and the PTO engaged turn the PTO backwards and it should cluck as the overrun / engagement cam pops over.
