Here's the finished result. Compare to the just-installed photo and the difference is clear. These rings can and should be compressed into the grooves.

I'll pull out my torque wrench and borrow my husband to hold the cylinder with a dowel through the eye while I torque it. The FEL is 2 1/2 hours away out in the woods so I can't use it as a restraint. I just wish I knew what the right torque setting was.

Never been able to find that info. I have the owners/operator manual for the LB400 FEL but it doesn't give any info on rebuilding cylinders and I've never found a manual that does.

Looks good. But I don't think a wood dowel in the eye will be strong enough to tighten the nut sufficiently. If you don't have a better way, I'd take it to the tractor and pin it. Use something like a block of wood to keep from scoring something. It won't take but a few minutes to reassemble it.

Metal pipe in the reciver tube of a Pickup truck will hold it tight enough.

I just wanted to check back in and mention that the surgery was a success. Not only are there no leaks, but the cylinders lift a whole lot better than they did before the leak, so I'm guessing there was quite a bit of internal wear on the seals.

No mishaps, no challenges. I torqued the rod nuts to 100 lb-ft and did not feel it prudent to tighten beyond that.
