B26 TLB - What is this hydraulic 'thing'?

Does anyone with a B26 TLB have this 'device' on their tractor? Anyone know what it is or what it does?

On mine, this is located on the subframe on the right side. It has three hoses and seems to be connected to the transmission block and the backhoe. The 'actuator' is connected to nothing. I've never seen any indication of it moving and I've never been able to move the actuator (never tried to force it though). I've looked at numerous pictures of other B26s and have not yet seen another one with this device in place.

I've looked through my Workshop Manual and Parts Catalog for the B26 and never found any mention or picture of it.

My thought is that it is some sort of diverter. But I don't know if it is frozen or just not made to be actuated manually. Perhaps it does something while the backhoe is in use. But I can't see it while sitting on the tractor and using the backhoe since it is under the footboard where the forward/reverse pedal is located.

Looks like a user modification. A manual valve with the name "Cross" cast in the handle bolted up in an inaccessible area with a flat face coupler sticking out of the side screams "modded". Also, there is an interesting bracket of some sort to the left of the valve.

I am pretty sure the bracket has to do with storage of the three point hitch arms (which I don't have). I never really considered that this could have been a 'mod' by the previous owner. Perhaps the flat face coupler would be capable of providing hydraulics for a third function on the loader (grapple or whatever). But usually I thought there would have to be a return coupler also.

That hose on the bottom is just crying to be broken off by a stick, rock, etc. Is it plumbed into your hydraulic pump and you just thought it was transmission?

Yes, it is. I try not to drive over stuff that would impact that hose. It does seem to be a 'liability'.

That is a Cross directional control valve. Get the full model number off it and I can probably tell you more. It appears it was put there to control a single acting cylinder or as a constant flow outlet to something that had its own return. Apparently no power beyond and the unused work port is plugged so the plumbing is a little suspect.

Edit: Whoops - just saw the bottom hose so it does seem to have power beyond. Only questionable issue then would be the plugged work port.

If its not being used I would cap it at the pump and disconnect that hose. No way I would not break it off, but we are in the mountains with rocks and sticks everywhere.

Very odd and agree it’s a non Kubota part or design. Without knowing what extra equipment was being used if that had any contribution to extra stress to eventually break an axle. Why wasn’t the extra equipment included with the tractor? May never know with a custom mod.

Even being careful it would be easy to damage the lower hydraulic line. A line attaching to QD would be in a delicate place too.

Aftermarket like everyone is saying.
With it set up the way it is it would be used for a tipping trailer.
Single action cylinder, one feed line that flow returns on the same line.

Everyone agrees this Cross hydraulic valve (whatever it is) is aftermarket. I'm talking to my tractor dealer (while they have the tractor apart) to get all the information I can on where the connections (3) are going.

It also seems to be consensus that where there is one flat faced connector on this valve, there should be another to make it useful. UNLESS some form of attachment was used that instead used another return such as for the backhoe.

I'd really like to know what this valve could be used for and why it appears it can only be actuated manually.

So, question is, what external hydraulic attachments could this support? That is to say, what makes sense? Some sort of wood splitter? An auger?

The members who have taken the time to reply so far (much appreciated) are obviously much more experienced that I am on what might be available. I would really appreciate any thoughts. I don't know if I have a need for this 'feature', but some day in the far future I will probably sell this tractor. And when that day comes I'd like to have more explanation to offer than "I don't know what it is for."

The valve could be used with any number of implements. We could guess all day and never know right or wrong.

As is it could be used to control an actuator with a dedicated return or a single acting cylinder - no return needed.

Its properly plumbed into the tractors power beyond so whoever put it there was not clueless. Its also doing no harm so call it one of those previous owner mysteries and move on.
