Just read two articles. One in Scientific America and another in Nature.

One documents the nine conditions for human survival and the current status. Not good. The other describes the impacts of CO2 on the mesosphere and how that atmospheric layer is causing the shifts in the lower level jet stream and producing the prolonged rains and such things as the infamous polar vortex.

Just attended a lecture by an artist who shows at the Guggenheim. She does with the camera what others do with Photoshop. Does no post-processing. Her work is groundbreaking but she is focused on death and destruction with little attention to rebirth. To any of us who lived thru the bomb shelter era, Cuban missile crisis, the Domino Theory, Y2K, WMD, Anthrax Scare, Covid, etc, she is waaaay too fatalistic.

Nothing ever got accomplished by sitting on your hands. This is why my wife and I are heavily invested in working with professionals to improve/protect forest health in NH as well as on our little 12 acre patch.

Pissing into the wind, but there it is.

Do I feel guilty about not addressing this more effectively and earlier? To quote Kurt Vonnegut " Don't blame me, I just got here myself".

Just because I was the last "at bat" in the baseball game, there were a lot of plays before I struck out.

Regards,

Dewey

I hope most folks know the difference between local weather phenomena and global climate…

The Blind Man and the Elephant
by John Godfrey Saxe

It was six men of Indostan, to learning much inclined,
who went to see the elephant (Though all of them were blind),
that each by observation, might satisfy his mind.

The first approached the elephant, and, happening to fall,
against his broad and sturdy side, at once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the elephant, is nothing but a wall!"

The second feeling of the tusk, cried: "Ho! what have we here,
so very round and smooth and sharp? To me tis mighty clear,
this wonder of an elephant, is very like a spear!"

The third approached the animal, and, happening to take,
the squirming trunk within his hands, "I see," quoth he,
the elephant is very like a snake!"

The fourth reached out his eager hand, and felt about the knee:
"What most this wondrous beast is like, is mighty plain," quoth he;
"Tis clear enough the elephant is very like a tree."

The fifth, who chanced to touch the ear, Said; "E'en the blindest man
can tell what this resembles most; Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an elephant, is very like a fan!"

The sixth no sooner had begun, about the beast to grope,
than, seizing on the swinging tail, that fell within his scope,
"I see," quothe he, "the elephant is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan, disputed loud and long,
each in his own opinion, exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right, and all were in the wrong!

So, oft in theologic wars, the disputants, I ween,
tread on in utter ignorance, of what each other mean,
and prate about the elephant, not one of them has seen!

95 here yesterday. Dry, we need rain. No rain in the forecast. We keep this weather up, we will look more like New Mexico than Illinois.

Yeah in SW NH we had a 40 inch snow in late March followed a few weeks later by 90 degrees. The last month has been wet and cold. Anthracnose killed many beech and the oaks are really having a hard time with the frost. No mast for the deer and turkeys this year.

While the North Country has been dry and record highs (90+). Extreme regional and temporal variations of weather. The smoke from the fires in Nova Scotia is smelled from Boston to southern Vermont.

Needing for YOU to get rain. All the main wheat countries are in serious trouble.

Yeah, we’re having a very cool spring in NM. And wetter than normal, like last summer and winter. Caused by El Niño weather patterns (warmer than normal Pacific Ocean water temperatures).

radial left bothers me and the radical right bothers me. Both are out of touch with reality.
I do my best to not get grumpy. There is ALWAYS something positive to think about.
