Today was the first day I got an opportunity to try out my new tractor since it was delivered last month & I can’t say I am impressed. I started brush hogging and every time I went up a slight incline I lost RMPs and the tractor just stopped. It did this several times and a couple of times the engine shut off. Mowing on level ground was fine. I also don’t care for the R14 tires they dig into the ground and not ideal for my food plots

the tractor has the HST transmission. I tried several things to get the tractor going up the slight incline to no avail. I originally had the tractor in Mid gear in 4wd with and without the cruise control on. I also tried it in high gear and with the mower off. Is there something I am doing wrong. I got a total of 3 hrs on the machine.

prior to this tractor I had DT 3000 for 15 yrs that was gear shifted and never had this problem

Did you try using Low gear on the incline? What RPM are you running?

No idid not try low gear. My RPMs was @2700 which was maxed out
I’m sure you won’t have any issues if you’re in low gear. You’d just have to go slow.

Hate to ask, but the brakes aren’t locked are they?
my thought as well.... I am surprised how many guys seem to forget to take their parking brakes off.

it should mow in M at 2700 up "slight" incline but try it in L and let us know if you notice a change.

One other note: Next time you try to go up the hill, back of the HST pedal and you'll find that both the speed and RPM's increase.

I have certainly left my brakes on a few times but, when engaged, they’ve never really slowed the tractor down much when working. The tractor seems to overcome them pretty easily in my experience.

What size bush hog and how heavy was the vegatation? In middle range a 72" rear discharge finish mower going uphill hills in high grass is enough to drag down my L3901. The low range is there for a reason and it aint just about top speed.

The new brush hog came with tractor from the dealer and it is 60 inches. The vegetation in my clover food plot was very minimal

All I can tell you is experiment with the range selection. I was surprised to discover my L3901 cant even come close to pulling my asphalt driveway in high range.

Aside from using lower range I believe it’s also been mentioned to use less pedal. The HST is a bit counterintuitive in that regard. Driving most things, such as car/truck, when you need more power you give it more pedal; so there’s a tendency to floor the pedal when the tractor is running out of power. With the HST, the opposite is true. If it’s struggling, back off the pedal.

Edit: Sorry, I see that’s a repeat of a prior comment.

Check you transmission/hydraulic fluid level. My 3302 had a similar issue on inclines and turned out it was about 1 quart low on delivery. I have not had any issues after adding more fluid.
