Had fun watching a pair of Mallards do their thing on my little proof of concept pond yesterday. Proof of concept in that my soil is loamy sand and without a liner of some sort will not hold water. I lined this small pond with sodium bentonite chips last spring and so far so good.

I shot a HS track meet Wednesday afternoon and I always enjoy the landings from the long jump. It makes you want to play in the dirt :)

A couple of other track meet photos from our freshman pole vaulter setting a new record and then breaking his own record on his next vault. It is going to be fun watching him break records over the next few years!

A small group of elk were on my property this morning. I had left a gate open on my neighbor's property a couple of months ago when cutting firewood and the elk seemed to appreciate it as they made their way up through the trees. :) A larger herd has been hanging around on a hill just to the NE of my place and I'm not sure if these were part of that group or a different group. There's a blonde bull in the bigger group so these ones might be working their way over to them.

I've had elk around the house each morning for the past week or so. They come off the mountain at night to drink at a pond below me (I think), and then head through my place back up the hill around 7am. I have 10 or so deer that hang around all the time and they don't seem to have a problem with the elk.

And the lead cow yesterday morning. I let my dogs out and she was keeping an eye on the Great Pyrenees. She ended up going back down the hill to the rest of the heard that were across the road. 15 minutes later they were all over my field.

Random shot during the mutt walk. It was so close I had to use the pano function. Now I have to convince my neighbor to let me in the barn to find the pot of gold!

Pretty Moth I found yesterday morning after a hard rain had quit. It was clinging to a light post trying to dry out.

Beautiful color and pattern. A little drab on the underside....but the top half is stunning IMO.

Should have gotten my digital camera out....instead of phone pics (don't do it justice).

Playing with my new drone. My house is just out of frame in the lower right corner.

It's a lower end DJI Mini 2 SE. I'm VERY impressed with how easy it is to fly and the quality of the camera, especially at the price I paid. Next experiment is to play with the video recording option. Suspect I'm going to need a bigger SD card for that...

I saw a nice little fox this morning coming across the field. He was stalking some critter and got it! I have a picture of him with something dark hanging from his mouth ... maybe a vole or something. I need to upgrade my phone which is now seven or eight years old but I really hate doing that. :sneaky:

That's a lovely scene. Are there any privacy concerns flying a drone over other people's property? Does your state or county have any regulations regarding the flying of drones? I'm genuinely curious and not trying to be funny.

In the US, drones are regulated at the federal level by the FAA. (You've probably started a firestorm here, the subject is pretty hot :))

Here is information as well as links to answer your questions.

Basically a drone is like any other aircraft and you can fly most anywhere, there are rules about flying over people for safety reasons. Many parks have rules about drones and many only control take off and landing within a park. It is a big subject, more than should be discussed here, just follow the FAA website and take the rather simple course.

Frankly, I don't know, and seeing as I have no plans to randomly fly around, I'm not particularly worried about it.

The drone was over my property, directly above my house at an altitude of 75-100 feet (I didn't look at the telemetry).

The only way I'd intentionally fly over someone else's property is at their request. I've done that once to get some pictures of roof damage for a neighbor.
