I haven't had the chance to fire one yet. Gotta wonder how it compares to a .454 Casull, which I love shooting, or a .45-70 in a Thompson Contender. That's a kick in the tank. .308 in a bolt-action handgun is a pussy cat next to the .44-70.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a .45-70 in an old Springfield trapdoor rifle. That thing was a killer on one end and a crippler on the other. Quite capable of stopping a rhino. That’s a HUGE chunk of lead. Otherwise, shooting old surplus 8mm Mauser rounds in a Gehwer 88 is quite violent too. Can’t imagine shooting those in anything lighter than an 88. It’s as long as a fence rail and just about as heavy.

A rather well-proportioned young lady decided to spend a portion of her vacation sunbathing on the roof of the hotel. She wore a bathing suit the first day, but, on the second, being a naturist, she decided that no one could see her way up there, and she slipped out of it for an overall tan.
She’d hardly begun when she heard someone running up the stairs. She was lying on her stomach, so she just pulled a towel over her rear.
“Excuse me, miss,” said the flustered little assistant manager of the hotel, out of breath from running up the stairs. “The hotel doesn’t mind you sunbathing on the roof, but we would very much appreciate you wearing a bathing suit as you did yesterday.”
“What difference does it make?” the woman asked rather calmly. “No one can see me up here.”
“Not exactly,” said the embarrassed little man. “You’re lying on the dining room skylight.”
