L2501 Chipper Woodland Mills WC46 vs WC68

Hey everyone, looking at buying a new wood chipper for my L2501 HST. I have narrowed it down between the Woodland Mills WC46 or WC68. The Tractor HP PTO rating (19HP) is just below the recommended rating (20HP) but I have seen some posts about guys using them on there tractors. Just looking for anyone who has one or the other and how the tractor handles it. Mostly clearing up brush and small growth on my 10 acre property but also looking to do some custom jobs for other people. Don't want to buy the WC46 and find it too small or buy the bigger WC68 and find my tractor under powered to run it.

My lx2610 19 hp pto handles the wc68 with no trouble.

You'll only be underpowered if trying for max capacity!
At least the 68 has a bigger opening for those crooked and forky branches... saves some trimming!
I have the 88, but it'll bog 60hp when you go too hard!!!

You won’t be disappointed with the WC68, and it will handle even the maximum size material if you remember to slow the infeed roller speed accordingly. My pto hp is only 19.5 and have had only one time where I stalled the tractor, and it was my fault for not slowing down the feed.

And as already mentioned, the larger hopper will handle the unruly branches better. I spent 3 weeks at my neighbors last spring chipping up storm damage, and there were some days that I stood at the back of the chipper and fed it nonstop without a single issue. The only reason I stopped was the dump trailer was full.

The only thing it doesn’t like is spruce tops, and balsam fir. If you feed it only evergreen material, it will have a tendency to clog the chute. Experience will let you know when to back off on the tops, and mix in more brown. Buy the WC68, you can thank me later.

Your tractor could handle the WC68 fine. It's a tad heavy on hills for a B, but the B just loafs along on our WC48 as did the JD 2025R before.

I have a Betstco wood chipper. When my L2501 was stock and producing 19 PTO HP, the tractor only stalled once with the wood chipper attached. My B2601 also powered the wood chipper fine.

You shouldn't have any issues.

A hint about the spruce/pine/fir tops., feed them top first.

I was helping a neighbor chip up some small pine trees on his yard and we were having to take the WC68 roller cover off to unjam the needles and twigs regularly. I went home for lunch leaving my neighbor chipping away (he's got 2 kubota CUTS so I wasn't worried about his abilities to handle my machines) and when i returned he had discovered the pine branches clogged WAY less if he fed them in BACKWARDS to the chipper, top first.

And indeed it made a huge difference, hardly clogged at all again.

My WC68 arrived and had a chance to put a few hours on it. Glad I went with the bigger chipper. Tractor handles it great and with a little tweaking of the infeed speed and the infeed roller spring tension it is working great.
