Hi everyone, I'm retired with a lot of time on my hands and thought about adding hydraulics on my L3010.
The tractor doesn't have anything now.
I was going to mount a valve to run a cylinder which I could mount to my back blade or anything else I make for the 3pt hitch.
I worked as a mechanic at a foodplant and worked with pneumatics and hydraulics.
1st question about valves, it seems to me that a open center valve would let the cylinder float and a closed center
valve would keep the cylinder in position, but the fluid wouldn't go back to tank.
2nd question, on the hydraulic block side of the engine I assume the B port is pressure, but were would the tank port on the valve
go to, C from implement (outlet) or D from implement (tank port).

Thanks for any help
Mark

I think you are confusing open center spools with open center directional control valves. In the mobil DCV context open center has nothing to do with float. Your tractor has an open center hydraulic system and you must use an open center valve with both a tank and power beyond port on your tractor.

I am going to assume you DO NOT have a loader on the tractor. If you do the directions are a little different.

  1. Remove the plugs in ports A and B.
  2. Connect a hose from port A to IN on your new valve.
  3. Connect the power beyond on your new valve to port B.
  4. You then need to find a place on the tractor for the tank return on your valve. When I get a chance I will look at some parts diagrams to see where that would normally go.
  5. EDIT: After looking at the WSM and parts diagrams it appears that the tank return is via the plug in the lower right of the outlet block. The WSM does not talk about it which is odd. I have edited the picture of the block to indicate the plug I am taking about, You should verify that is the proper point before trying to use it.
  6. Once all three hoses are connected turn the selector valve 3 on the outlet block to the vertical position and leave it there. Do not turn it back unless you remove the hoses connected to A and B and plug those ports.

Hi Old Hokie, correct I don't have a loader. Here is a photo of my hydraulic block
Thank You View attachment 93814
OK - that diagram is a bit clearer:
  1. Port B on hydraulic block goes to IN or P on your AUX valve.
  2. Power beyond (PB) on AUX valve goes to C on block
  3. Tank port (T) on AUX valve goes to D.
Thats all there is to it.

Thank you very much, now for the fun part of buying components

Thats easy - the tougher part is where do you want to put the valve. There are plenty of valves to choose from - some inexpensive and some not so much. Cost aside how many spools do you want?

Hi Dan, I thought I would get a 2 spool valve and plug one of them for something I might use later, at least it would be mounted. I see Summit Hydraulics has a 2 spool monoblock for $109 + a power beyond adapter.
One other thing, do you know what kind of threads are on the ports on the engine hydraulic block, I assume they aren't NPT.
Thanks
Mark

IIRC the manual said 3/8 PT which I interpret as Janglish for NPT. Need to double check my memory..

I have used quite a few of the Summit valves with good results. Work finw, excellent price, no shipping, and fast delivery..

Hi Dan, You are correct on the thread size, I found some 3/8 pipe fittings I had , pulled the plug out of the tractor and it fit.
Thanks again for your help
