I just bought a L3902 and would like to have DPF-compatible oil CJ-4 - where can I find this and also the L3902 oil/fuel filters? Thank you!

I would buy factory's at a dealer or online. Oil, any auto parts store, Walmart etc. 15w40 would be my pick. Make sure it's diesel rated, CK-4 is the current rating.

Confused at what you're asking...your local kubota dealer will sell you the oil and filter cheapest vs going online. You only need to change it at 50 hours not when it's a new tractor. The oil is nothing special compared to any other brand with the same weight rating. The filter is made in china, also nothing too fancy though fits properly and does what it needs to. Both have nothing to do with DPF as far as I know, so not sure what you are asking.

I always use Kubota factory filters from the dealer. But since I prefer synthetic oil and Kubota doesn’t sell that, I bought Valvoline premium blue synthetic diesel oil. Rotella T6 is good also. There are many good oils with CK-4 rating.

Kubota is behind the times with their oil offerings…

I have only seen 10W-30 and 15W-40 conventional Kubota branded,
although some dealers may have a full synthetic under a different brand…

Look for a full synthetic 5W-40 CK-4 oil…

You can use a full synthetic 15W-40, but I would use this only if you are using the tractor in really hot weather, or really heavy use, or both…

For use in really cold weather, a 0W-40 could be considered…

I suggest Shell Rotella T6 in 5W-40…

If you are not expecting to use the tractor in sub-freezing temperatures I would suggest sticking with 15W-40 oil; my latest preference is Mobil Delvac Extreme 15W-40. It's a full-synthetic readily available oil (as long as there's a Wal-Mart nearby) and relatively inexpensive. Here's an address to check it out:

My local Wal-Mart seems to always have it on the shelf, unlike Rotella which used to be my go-to choice. If your'e concerned about using a 15W oil in colder weather, a full synthetic 15W should have no problem meeting the needs of your Kubota.

I'm not going to recommend any 5W-40 HD Diesel engine oil for a Kubota, unless the tractor is designated for regular winter usage. Even then I'd still be hesitant; I'd probably recommend a 10W HD Diesel engine oil.

As far as filters, I've heard some members speak highly of Wix brand, but for me it's strictly Kubota factory filters, from my dealer (engine oil, HST/Hydraulic, fuel & air).

Given modern oil technology what advantage is there to a 15W40 engine oil?

Dan
Supporting Dan's thought. Spec is for a 15w-40 or 10w-30.

I used a 15w-40 for a while in upstate New York. No block heater. Not sure I'd get one in hindsight, as tractor is in an attached garage with temp ~30+ degrees.

Cold starts were hard on a 15w. Oil was thick on real cold mornings when it was -8F outside....

After switching to a 5w-40 synthetic, cold starts were much easier.....regardless of brand, 5w-40 is all my tractor will see.

Not sure I could go to a 0w, but my truck does.... ;)

Unless you don't like your dealer, I would get the filters and oil from them.
The dealer where I live in NC wont even talk to me because I bought the tractor and implements for $5,500 less from another dealer - they had an "availability surcharge". I am pretty fired up about it.

Yea, I would not give him any other business, either. I would plan vacation or business trips to places that you might pass another Kubota dealership. Buy multiple units of the filters from another dealer, fuel, air and oil, but I would get oil from any of the regular auto parts stores. Engine oil I use Shell Rotella® T6 But for hydraulic, SUTD2 from the dealer.

The one dealership in Raleigh is where I buy my supplies - I didn't buy from them but did get a price quote from them.

When I was leaving that dealership, they said if I got a better price to come back and see if they can match it or beat it. Hindsight, I should have gave them a chance but I was really happy with the dealer I bought from, they got me the silky smooth 3 point hitch valve (back when they were super jerky).

Unfortunately, my dealer that I bought from did end up going out of business. Not that big of a problem since they were another hour past our 2nd home.

As a matter of fact, my son was looking for a BX - Kubota of Franklin NC (I hate to name them) but they are horrible to get a response or deal with. I am glad I found James Stewart of Alto GA - they are the great.
