B7100D clutch problems

Update to my previous thread, since I split the tractor again…

Backstory: pplate finger snapped and lodged between the housing and flywheel. Before this, clutch worked as it should.

I replaced pplate, TO bearing, and seals. Not much details in the WSM, so I used a parts diagram. Flywheel was/is good and so is pilot bushing.

After installation, clutch won’t disengage. At an idle, it will grind once before it goes into gear. With pedal still pressed, it will move forward/backwards. I adjusted the clutch play both directions. Since everything worked before the old pplate fell apart, I must have made an error during installation.

I split it again tonight. I think the disc was installed correctly with the taller hub side facing to the rear, correct? Could incorrect pplate finger adjustment cause the disc not to disengage?

The fork looked like it goes together one way. Am I incorrect?

I am stumped. Any advice is appreciated

There is a WSM at www.kubotabooks.com. Actually it's an I&T Shop Manual. In section 2, about paragraph 54, there's a procedure for adjusting the finger heights.

Does the pedal travel as far as it used to ? I would take it apart and make sure the p.p. is the correct one, and the pilot bearing is indeed good. Also see if the clutch disk will fit the other way ? Are there any marks on the disk hub, as if the throw out bearing was hitting it ?

Pedal travel seems the same as before, but perhaps with less resistance. I’ll verify the pplate correctness, pilot is good. I’ll turn the disc around too, I could not find a definitive answer about disc direction. It looks like the TO was contacting the fingers, but I need to check for markings on the disc.

I’ll report back with my findings.

I used that I&T manual to set finger heights. Certainly worth verify though. It’s almost like the TO bearing bearing barely makes contact with the fingers. I’m gonna take some TO bearing travel measurements vs finger position.
I will report back.

I took it apart and the p.p. matches the old one. And on a B7100D, I can say for certain the disc only fits one way. No marks on the disc hub.

But I did notice the flywheel, new p.p. and disc were a bit dirty. I cleaned them up better this time. I also noticed the p.p. bolts were barely finger tight. Snugged them up.

I can’t tell if the TO made contact with the p.p. fingers. Not sure if any wear marks would be visible given the short run time. I found a more accurate way to measure p.p. finger height. They were all too high according to the IT/WSM, but not by much. I can’t believe it could be that finicky. I will set them per spec and hope that’s the problem. Other than that, I’m still stumped.

Fingers crossed about resetting the fingers per spec.
