SUCCESS!!!!

The 64mm cap wrench spun on the filter. Next I tried the Ares toothed clamping cap wrench (similar to the Lisle 63600), and it worked! So somewhat anti-climactic, which is actually what I had hoped for.

As I laid in bed this morning, I wondered how my Schrödinger's Oil Filter would end up. I find these types of situations quite odd ... until I put the wrench on it, the state of the oil filter is simultaneously stuck and not-stuck.

Thank you to everybody who chimed in. I really appreciate all of the suggestions, especially @Fordtech86, who suggested the Lisle 63600.

On a humorous note, I recently purchased a funnel that has caps on both ends. Thought that was pretty cool. I left it out in the rain with the caps screwed on, but water found a way inside. Now there's water in the folds that allow the funnel to bend. So I can't change my oil. Fortunately I don't think I'll need to post a new thread on how to deal with this. Think I can pretty much handle this one on my own, even though, you know, the whole software engineer screwdriver thing that was mentioned earlier. :cool:

For the water, I think a couple more trips to Amazon will work.....I prefer a heat gun, minimum 9,000 degrees F......:rolleyes:;);)

I'm late to the party here. I've had many issues over the years removing filters from various wheeled vehicles (Jeep Grand Cherokee was probably the oddest location to reach). I mostly use a strap wrench these days. I have a 2 piece set with smaller and larger one. They fit every filter and can reach areas not easily reach by other oil cap wrench types.

I got the oil changed today. Immediate solution was to borrow another funnel from a neighbor. Long term, I decided not to use the my funnel for substances I can't wash out. That funnel was an impulse purchase and now I wish I hadn't bought it. The caps on the ends seemed like a great idea, but if they can't keep water out then they can't keep oil in.

I swapped out the air cleaner so I could bring the old one back home and blow it out with an air gun. The old one was surprisingly dusty!

I investigated what it's going to take to remove the hydraulic filter. There's a protector plate down there that's blocking access with a strap style wrench. Those gripper tongs would do it but I'm just going to take the plate off ... I need to anyway to change the lower fuel filter.

Remember, 30 PSI air pressure maximum to blow out an air filter.

Just buy a new one, and have a spare. With your luck, you will probably damage it with the cleaning. I have spare filters for all my engines, so I always have one when it is needed, instead of having to go looking for it when it is inconvenient. There is also a secondary inside air filter that you can purchase from your local Kubota dealer. I put one in my old Kubota, and one in my new Kubota. Cheap at twice the price when it is protecting your engine.

BX1870-1. So, it has always bugged me that our BX did not have a Safety (inner) Element. Every tractor we have owned has an inner AND an outer air filter. Our RTV1100 runs two elements, as well. I was visiting with our Kubota parts expert at our local dealer and brought this up. He had never had...

Thanks for the info on the inner filter. I did not know about that. I watched the Messicks video on the inner filters.

You make a good point about using air to clean filters ... perhaps the better idea is to simply replace it and consider it part of the operating costs.
