What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Used my new pallet forks to move my mower deck from behind the shed out onto the driveway, so I could mount to the BX2380 and mow today. This would normally be done by pushing, shoving, dragging and likely some mild curse words or at least frowny faces.

Pallet forks made this super easy !

My TG1860 is temp out-of-service, so did the mowing with the BX instead.

Not worthy of a new thread. But for a couple exceptions, I’ve been at the controls of my trimmer for 30-plus years.

Have gotten too old to do it anymore. Complained about it on other threads.

A high school freshman that lives within walking distance did a fantastic job doing it today! He admitted it challenged him as well. Gave me some confirmation that it wasn’t just me at almost 60 years old.

The young fellow did a great job, and worked very hard for 2 hours.

He said his GPA is close to 100%, and his Mom is very much on board with him having a paying job.

While I just met him this morning, my intuition says we need more kids like this…...

Used my BX as a wheelbarrow/transport to clean out one shed and move stuff to another shed. The cleaned out shed is the new home for my Z422 mower. Thankfully I made the doors open to 76” on this one…she fits nicely!
The Zero turn has been living in my truck’s spot in the 2.5 stall garage while I have been setting up and modding it.

50 feet of 12" culvert drain pipe installed and gave the client a blank slate.

Before:

The "green" area is where there was an existing drainage ditch that ran to 14" pipe under his driveway. I feel like the rear spacer I added last week really helped on this job.

Orange to the rescue:

Home owner was a nice guy with a JD 2025 and loader. He helped loading rocks/concrete and junk into the 30 yard roll off.

I didn't realize how much smaller the JD 2 series tractors are than the large B series kubota. He had a lot of difficulty reaching over the sides of the roll off and the lift capacity was limited, granted, he had turf tires and nothing on the back end for ballast. I did teach him how to use "float" on his loader. Also, the two speed rear sucked. He was in low when hauling loads of topsoil and I could've likely moved two larger loads to his single load in less time.

I wished that I had remembered to snag a picture with Orange and green side by side.

Great people though and I enjoyed working with him.

How much did the help set you back?

I paid him $50 for the 2 plus hours today. He worked hard.

Had no idea for rate, but a couple people I’d spoken to before said that was about their rate for a couple hours now and then.

Guessing we’d need him a couple times a month for a couple hours.

Pruned a bunch of dead limbs out of the Golden Rain trees in the field of trees Thursday. Ran out of time Thursday so there were a bunch of them still laying in the field. Many were way too long to fit down the trails to the brush piles without being cut down further and I was wanting to come up with an option to further reduce handling. So instead of piling them up and grappling to brush piles for later chipping, we brought the chipper to the field and chipped into the dump bed on the Mule, moving the pair around to various areas to keep limb dragging reasonable. Wife was working dragging limbs 90% of the time. Caught her sitting in the Mule waiting for the chipping to be done right at the end of the job when there were no more limbs to drag.

I was pretty pleased with the amount of brush it took to make a full load for the Mule and the speed it will run keeps cycle times reasonable. We have a 4’ x 8’ off-road trailer that would hold a lot more and could be towed by the Mule or one of the older tractors but it’s not a dump.

We did a bit more trimming in other areas and grappled that brush to one of the brush piles for chipping this fall. I suspect we’ll use the chip on site method again depending on the circumstances.

Great idea with the Mule. I am planning to order a chipper, still deciding but leaning toward the WoodMaxx WM-8H. I hadn't thought about discharging into the dump bed of our Polaris Ranger, but that sounds like a good way to go.

Did the 100 hr service and periodic loader services today. I had 1/2 dozen bolts on the loader frame that needed tightening. I had gone through at the 50 service and checked them then and had a few that needed tightening then also. After that was done I mowed the perimeter of the fields and a few paths with the flail mower.

We are paying more than $1 more per gallon for diesel here, you should be elated.

No kidding he should be elated! We're paying $5.19 or so for gasoline! And our town is usually the cheapest compared to other towns/cities in the area.

Added EMP magnetic rearview mirrors to the FEL. I have a little one running around and I have to back up around trees in the woods so it helps.

Not sure on Turfs. My B3200 has ag tires. I will say with this wet spring it is a lot easier on the ground. You get it in mud and she just spins. Haven’t got it stuck. Yet.

More than half of our County was out of power very early Tuesday, April 19, including us. Had a foot-plus of real heavy snow and rain.

We got power Thursday or Friday.

That followed a February storm that snapped off a big White Pine in our yard that took us and 200 neighbors out for 3 days or so....

Upper 90s and really humid for our area. The weather event is called ‘derecho’ , we have had before and it knocked the cupola off our courthouse…anyways lots of folks have it way worse….but power crews are out getting it done round the clock…I hope everyone appreciates them and treats them well….be a shitty job they are doing in this heat so I really appreciate them.
Power out, but generator running well (knock on wood)…deep freezes and fridge are fine.
No broken windows or significant damage to house.
No townies in our area mocking me today for having a tractor or generator or chainsaw or a garden.
I don’t anticipate running out of firewood and I feel conservative in saying the dog has more sticks/branches to play with than she could have ever dreamed.
Have tractor and grapple - they are very helpful tools to have. I have a chipper new in box from last week that should get broken in soon. The B / grapple is outmatched for a couple of the trees….we will have an on going cleanup project from the looks of it. (Be a lot easier if MX were here at the house, but it could be worse…some people have trees on their house or cars or missing some roof, so really I am blessed to not be in worse condition)
