Back in 2020 mother booked us a vacation to Nashville. Then months later covid showed up. Flights cancelled hotels ect all cancelled. The airline gave no refunds but vouchers on the price of the tickets out to 2022 then they expire.
Mother now has booked it again. The hotel in Nashville has been hit twice in the last three months with 'smash & grab" in the parking lot. Six or eight cars targeted what ever is left in the car stolen and their gone in one minute. I called the Nashville police to ask about safe locations in Nashville , where to avoid and stay away from. The dispatcher spent 15 minutes on the phone with me and eventually told me all the hotels in Nashville had see the smash and grabs in the last sixs months. AND being on a recorded line he was not allowed to tell me to stay away from any area , hotel, restaurant, ect, he said traffic later in the day down town was bad. So use uber or buses.
Anyone here have vacations planned in 2022 ? or know Nashville at all ?
Gonna spend a few days in Kentucky then onto Nashville. I've visited many parts of Tenn over the years with never an issue.

I'm in bed at 8pm. So let them smash and grab the rental. That doesn't bother me honestly as we leave nothing of value in the car. But not being a night owl I'm hoping no issues. This is mothers vacation. Mine will be to Dearborn for the factory tour. We are going to stop at the corvette museum in Ky on the way thru.

It's sad when you can't go somewhere because of crime in that area!.
They were mostly peaceful smash and grabs though.
Oh yea, That makes it all better!

I'd be picking a different town to visit!

The only smash and grab's going on up here, are smashing a soda or beer can and then grabbing another out of the cooler!

In all honesty, 2 break ins at one hotel in 3 months in a city like that, I really wouldn’t worry. Using Uber/public trans in an unfamiliar city (especially if you don’t do city traffic often) would likely be a good choice. Be careful with Uber though.

We had a bad experience with an Uber driver in Kalamazoo a few years back that left a handful of people dead and shot up.

if you're in a rental, don't leave no valuables in the vehicle and don't worry about it, just go have your vacation.

As long as nothing of value is left in the car, the likelihood of a break-in is low.

happens often here people leave wallets cards guns tv's knives computers laptops "personal items", and whatever else they use to live in their vehicle, and the get broken into. The same neighborhood, cars taht ain't got nothing of value in them don't get broke into. They're on camera, they'll grab stuff outta someone's car, then go to another car, nothing in it, and walk right on by.

On vehicle thefts, sometimes a third pedal stops theft--since some thieves can't drive a manual. I call it a "millennial anti theft device".

Of course if you'd seen the junk I drive, you'd understand why it don't get stolen. Nobody wants it. Not even a thief. Johnny Cash's song "one piece at a time" fits it. I'd call it a MOPAR but it's not made by Chrysler. MOPAR is an acronym for miscellaneous oddball parts assembled ridiculously--which perfectly describes my daily driver. But it's paid for and has been since the day I got it--for $400.

Went to the Dominican Republic in February, been pretty there 3 times and that was our last.

Ill be riding to north/west Arkansas at some point this spring. Great motorcycle riding out that way and it’s 5-6hr ride for me too get there.

Would like to get to Florida at some point this summer as well, one of my childhood friends lives in the Tampa/Orlando area. We are supposed to do a 45 and still alive fishing trip with a couple other childhood friends but nothing is set in stone just yet.

October I’ll be riding up too Buchanan Michigan for the Motorcross des nations race. As an MX fan mxDN had always been on my bucket list but it’s hosted by a different country every year. Well a few years ago it was at Red Bud, same as this year and I had a great time. So I’ll be doing that again.

Mother has been getting alerts about the hotels and rental. In the last week hotel price for seven days dropped $72. and the rental dropped $115. for the week. So she rebooked for the lower price. Same hotel and rental company.
Not sure if folks aren't traveling becouse of covid , war or prices have slowed summer travel. With the cost of everything increasing hard to believe prices have dropped.

I have a friend that enjoys traveling all over and really likes to go far south. Me I would just as soon stay home and shoot ground hogs off the back porch. Besides I never did like going some place where they dont speak english and tell you not to drink the water :)

Doubt it's over covid. More likely it's the fact gas prices are so high. Coworker just canceled his vacation to yellow stone this summer. It would have cost them $2,000 in fuel alone for the truck and camper. They decided to do something much closer to home.

Wife and I are taking a vacation to Hawaii this year. But it's a flight, and then shuttle ride to the resort. After that it's walking, Uber, or tour pickup depending on what we do.

We decided to forgo the car rental. It would have been $50 a day just for the parking pass at the resort, plus whatever the car rental for a week would be. Most of what we want to do, we can catch a shuttle from either the resort, or a short walk to a pickup point for the shuttle.

I doubt the rooms came down due to Covid either. It’s not been much of a thing in Nashville for a while. Nothing like Illinois anyway. But if you can get a deal in Nashville you better take it. Quite expensive in the city. If you’ve never been to broadway you might as well experience it at least once. It’s not my thing as it’s very crowded and if you happen to enjoy a beer or two they’ll be $8 a piece downtown. It’s cool too see it but it’s become very trendy. If you’re looking to get away from broadway but want to be out and about enjoying the bar/music scene there’s an area called midtown that’s more reasonably priced and it’s where a lot of the “locals” go.

Stay away from Memphis 👍👍👍👍 or if anyone decides to visit, stay in Mississippi.

Memphis is a crime infested dump.

Being retired for the second time (this time for real, first time was 5 years when in my 50s) EVERYDAY is a vacation.

Wife and I traveled internationally a lot when younger...no need anymore. Happy to sit on the back porch like Skeets, but I don't shoot ground hogs anymore. They live where it doesn't bother me. They are welcome to eat my grass. :ROFLMAO:

Don't like the blue herons that come to the pond to eat the gold fish though... but nature is nature...would not harm them even though I don't like what they are doing.
