Not sure if granite is routinely available around here.

Got a 20 ton load of crusher run April 2021. Top-dress driveway every 3-5 years.

$250 delivered. About a 15 mile trip one-way.

Bet it's more now, but not that much.

Do I understand this correctly - the price of one tandem load of stone is $1100-$1300?

You understand correctly. Found that I have a quarry about 10-15 miles from my primary home. Delivery from there to primary home would be 18 ton load for $984

Everything has gone crazy with prices!! We have seen a 30% increase in our HVAC equipment prices since 2019. They are limiting the amounts of duct materials we can buy per day. Afraid this Country hasn't seen the worst yet, Lets Go Brandon!!
Now, Yea, I was not thinking you were trying to get me to change materials. Figured since I had them quoting would get the crush run priced. Need to upgrade my drives at home in Wilson, about 300'. Had those put in early- mid 90's. Never had a problem with them, never had any fill added, just periodically drag them. They have settled, so time for more fill.

Just for giggles I called the local quarry. A 20T load of CR6 delivered (15
miles each way) is $626 including freight and tax. Their hauling charges are pretty steep and the local excavator I use has his lot right down the road and can probably beat that price hauling it for me.

I am surprised prices in a place like NC are that high.

Last time I got rock it was something like $600/load at 22 to 26 tons/load for a 175 ton order. That was 5 miles without any major road travel. They weren’t concerned about DMV weighing them so they were able to run heavy. About 40% of the cost was transport. Priced from 3 local quarries and that was the best deal at the time.

That was about three years ago. With the increases in fuel prices for the trucks and quarry machines I would expect that’s gone up. There’s so much road construction and general construction in our area the demand for rock is a bit crazy. That demand also impacts the paving prices. DOT is part of it but the seemingly endless new housing and commercial developments put a lot of pressure on the supply.

The only time I have my tractor out of 4wd is if with light or no loads and just getting a to b like road travel, and when I don't want to dig up the sod or soft gravel with the front tires especially while turn sharply.
While working with heavy FEL loads always have the 4wd engaged. One bump can remove all the rear tires' traction and you're now freewheeling with 1000lbs of sand on the front and no brakes. A guaranteed butt-puckerer, at minimum. It took me ONE uncontrolled (albeit minor and nothing around to damage) front-wheels-only roll mishap to learn that real good. Took a few seconds to realize the brakes were suddenly useless and the only way to stop was to drop the sand load down to the ground.

I decided to do the same since you replied. I called the quarry, its 11miles from my home.
#57 granite $33.00 per ton plus 6.75% tax
Crush run $26.00 per ton plus 6.75% tax
Delivery fee $180 to my location
So, it is a little better
Contractor is in line, I quess, if you account for profit margins. Also, numbers I listed were for coastal area, don't know where quarry is there.

I don't want to live that, but minus my experience, something tells me I will during my seat time

Anybody that operates on slopes understands 4WD is needed for braking as well as pulling. If I decided to run full speed down the county road I would use 2WD. Anything else is 4WD.

Wife has said " Hell No" to the asphalt. Said it's going to be decorative rock, that's why you have a new Kubota with all the play thingies that came with it. So, get this thing going and go play!!

Ok, but the OP just got a tractor, is asking good questions. It's really good to know these things before you go operating on a slope like I did 4 years ago as a 4WD FEL CUT newbie.

I gained that understanding by scaring myself a little, but the main thing as in anything with these machines is careful forethought before action, which when you're a new operator takes TIME.

Just take it all nice and slow. Think. Muscle memory takes time.

There are just too many things that can f-up with all the pedals, levers, huge # of implements of all kinds, small, powerful and relatively lightweight tractor units.

Now the OP has a heads up!

Have you considered a concrete apron at the garage and then a gravel driveway? No idea how much drive length you are talking about for the $17000
That’s what I did. Concrete in front of garage long enough to park a car, then gravel the remainder of the road. Of course my road is 2100’ long.

Are you going to tear out the concrete or go over it?
Being the concrete is very thick, was poured in 1980, its a great base so I am thinking just put rock over it. I will need around 3" 4" in-depth to meet garage slab. Will put some type of geotextile fabric down in the other places. Project is getting larger as the wife wants the area beside the garage and behind the garage done also.

We are so tired of concrete cracking, main reason plus cost for rock drive idea. Everybody has always said to me, ' The only thing certain about concrete is its certainly going to crack".
