Looking for Parts to keep on hand and other great tips

As a new diesel owner, it is great to have a place like this to learn and show other newbies how things can be done.

i read a while back that the air filter design is lacking and we can install a 2nd air filter?

if i am learning to perform all the regular preventive maintenance, what are some common items i should stock up? What type of oils for engine, hydraulics, etc?

Assuming this is the L2501 you have listed in your profile…

From 2501 parts diagram they don’t show the inner filter.

But if you go to the L3200 like I have (which is pretty similar) they show the optional inner filter. They two models share the same outer filter and housing assembly.

I would say always have a spare fuel filter on hand. I just buy Kubota oil and filters for peace of mind. But I don’t put a lot of hours on my tractor neither. The best advice I can give is to read the owner’s manual and keep it somewhere for quick reference. And don’t be afraid to go through it every so often

Thanks for the tips. Already gone thru the owners manual couple times. I am hoping a more Chilton’s style of pictorial manual in showing how to do all the preventive maintenance.

With todays supply chain issues, I always keep the next two "Lube/oil/filter" changes in stock in my garage for all my vehicles and equipment. Actually I think I've always done that, now I'm stocking up even further.

Youtube has been my friend. You can find videos of practically all types of maintenance there. I find a picture video is worth a 1000 words.

If i use youtube as a guide, is most L series apply to the l2501 geared model as well?

I always search for my specific model (specific as possible, like L3800H or L3800HST).
For example. from the Kubota diagrams, I found I wasn't sure many times exactly which bolt was the drain bolt they were referring to.

You also have to weigh some youtubers 'own preferences' for doing things. One video on changing hydro fluid / filter just changed the fluid lost in the filter replacement. May work for him. May work for everyone. Fluid isn't that all expensive in the grand scheme of things for me vs the value of the tractor.

Like everything on the interwebby you have to do some gleaning

Dediate a shelf or two for ONLY Kubota tractor 'stuff' ! Buy a NEW grease gun, 6 carts and store there...ONLY use on your Kubota.Store any 'special' tools there as well as oil and airfilters. maybe a few Zerks ? How about a 'log book' /clipboard ??

I stocked up on filters for my BX22, and when I got the BX23S, I learned that the oil filter was even smaller than the one on the BX22. I couldn't believe that they actually were able to make a filter that small and still maintain the filtering characteristics of the older fiiter.

Consider rust prevention as well. I use Fluid Film in places I can't see for peace of mind.
The spray can has a straw for reaching inside of things.

Some Kubota touch up paint is also good to have around.

Some fuses and definitely some 3-point hitch clips. A good clevis and pin.

My dealer has a 10% off filter sale every February. I buy what I need for the season at that time and keep them in stock.

It doesn't hurt to check with your dealer to see if they do something similar.

I like to keep at least one new pail of Premium UDT on hand. I also bulk buy engine oils when they go on sale.

Is there an online place that has good prices on oil/parts? Is a gal of udt2 for $25 ok deal?

Very seldom will you find a Kubota part at a lessor price at a different dealership. Whatever the price is, is what it is unless like Mikester says, a specific dealership offers a special. Even online prices don't very much.

Like most people, I buy filters ahead of time. I learned a valuable lesson in storing air filters. Put them in a plastic tote, don't leave them in the OE box on the shelf, or you will find a mouse condo and a ruined filter when you go to use it.
