Brand New 2021l2501 oil plug falls out

I have a brand new 2021 Kabota l2501 with less then 5 hours on it when moving a load of wood with my loader the oil pressure light came on engine cut off . Got off the tractor notice some oil leaking out and the bolt was missing . Kabota has since picked up the tractor and said the engine is locked and will require a brand new engine. The dealershit keeps asking me if I hit anything with the tractor or ran over a stump which I have not . Warranty covers the new engine but should I be Leary of replacement engine or possible other damage ? I feel like the tractor wasn’t properly inspected before being dished out . I waited 5 months to get this tractor and dealing with this 5 hours into operation has been nothing but a headache . Any advice or similar experience would be appreciated

What is your alternative to a replacement engine- an entirely new tractor? I don't think you are going to get that to fly.

Do I understand this correctly - one of the oil pan drain plugs is what came out?

if the oil pan bolt was missing and not sheared off (and no visible scraping of the oil pan) then this is 100% dealer/mfg issue. If you hit something, its your fault but again should have visible damage/scraping marks.

What I would reinforce for your own benefit is follow your manuals required checks before operating the machine. This isnt a car. You dont just drive it off the lot and forget about it until the oil change light comes on. You need to be visually inspecting and running your checklist before you get on the machine...at least every few times.

For instance, did you check ALL of the grease fittings to be sure you have grease in the joints before operating it after the dealer dropped it off? Probably not and I would not have either a few years ago either. Check oil level, check hyd fluid level, check radiator/fan screen for debris, check grease, get on and check brakes, etc etc. Once you get a routine its not much time at all.

I feel your pain. Awful. I had three setup issues with my new Kubota: loose hydraulic FEL line delivered spewing oil; two harder to reach zerks on the loader arms not greased; and I only discovered doing my 50-hour service that a bolt holding the loader subframe on the tractor was missing and another was out of place. Dealer whisked the tractor in for the latter and replaced/repositioned the bolts—but did not tighten the new bolt!

Your issue likewise is a Kubota issue. Not sure it is a dealer setup issue or a factory error. But in theory the dealer sets up and inspects the tractor.

Most dealerships in my experience are fair at best. I have learned the hard way, you really have to look out for yourself and assume poor service. When you get the tractor back, inspect the FEL bolts if you have an FEL. And check all fluids and wheel torque.

Sound like they are going to eat it bigtime but its also going to cost you a LOT of time as well.
Very sorry to hear. :(
I would most definitely ask for a free extended warranty. So many more things could go wrong now with a replacement engine install. Just my .02

Terrible luck....I'd also ask for a suiteable replacement to use while you're waiting for your new engine to be installed. You could be tractorless for several months. IMO, there's no reason why they couldn't provide you something in the interim.

I am thinking a factory workmanship problem. Why would the dealer ever touch the drain plug?

Frankly, I don't think it makes sense at all...

You pay the price of a new car for a tractor and then are expected to do everything the factory or dealer should do to ensure the tractor is in shape to be used at least up to the first service point?

Time to get real...

Indeed. Assuming it wasn't the result of damage during operation this is not the owners fault in the slightest. No different than a drain plug falling out after a trip to ZippoLube for an oil change. Someone at the store failed to tighten the plug and it was not the owners job to double check it or anything else on the machine.

I would want a new machine and tell them to deliver it tomorrow! Why should you have to go with no tractor while it sits at the dealer for God knows how long.

Bummer...as I also have a new L2501...only 3 hours on mine...I did double check Engine Oil, Coolant and Hydraulic Oil levels...double checked all zerks (found bottom of FEL cylinder fittings dry). I need to still check front Axle fluid level...as that issue has been posted on OTT before. Going to do that right now!

I did request the PDI Sheet (attached for reference).
Suggest you ask the Dealer for yours...

I had a grease point that was completely missed on the backhoe when I took delivery. Sorry but I dont trust anyone with my machine. If you do....its your loss. Takes 5 min to do a daily check.

Again not saying its not the dealers fault...just trying to help the OP with anything else that might have been missed.

I would think the dealer would check oil levels but surely not have to check the tightness of all the drain plugs and filters.

I think I would ask for a loaner while it's at the shop waiting on the new motor to arrive from Kubota and their "technician" to change it out. Otherwise they should refund your money so you can buy another tractor, because Lord only knows how long they could drag out that motor change.

Removed Front Axle Check Plug (right side of axle)...Fluid Level good!

FWIW...I also put yellow Lock N Lube fitting caps on all my zerks...mainly so I know where the heck they are...does keep some dirt out I guess...but being able to find them was the main issue.

Are the oil pans on an L2501 aluminum?

So much aluminum in engines spooks me. Always concerned with stripping threads.

Not suspecting the owner....just a little heavy-handed with a wrench can cause some major problems.

Does your state not have a “Lemon law”…??? if so…and if within the. time frame….I’d insist on a new tractor.
