What's a reasonable price for a new heavy duty box blade?

I'm a new tractor owner currently renting a brand new heavy duty 1/4" steel Bush Hog SBX650 Box Blade from my dealer 2 days @$150/day with the option to buy for $1500 + $100 tax. It's a nice heavy duty box blade but the price seems way too high for just box blade. I haven't been able to find any pricing online for this price of equipment. I would like to own a box blade but I'm thinking I'll just return this and buy a more basic tractor supply model for future products.

I haven't been able to find any comparable comps online for this piece of equipment. Am I correct in thinking this piece of equipment is overpriced or is that just what the nicer box blades go for? Is it worth it?

We purchased the SBX72 before the COVID pandemic made everything crazy (December of 2019) and paid just under $1,000 for it and no tax since it was going to the farm to help maintain field entrances.

Like you, I don't know list prices. Just seems steep.

At the very least, have the dealer discount sale price by the rental amount you've paid him.....That's not foreign to dealers that rent equipment.

Seems pretty inflated to me. I just purchased a new 72” King Kutter Box Blade for about $1000 when upgrading from a 60” Land Pride BB1260

On the other hand, it’s available, and you already have $300 into it for 2 days.

If it seems to do what you want, I’d probably buy it. You could call around to see what you can find. I waited months for my grader/scraper, and it was going to be at least 6 months for the heavier rear blade. I did find the heavier rear blade at another dealer, but that was about 7 hours driving to get it.

Also, prices don’t seem to be coming down … only up.

while I may not fully agree with the price hikes, im not surprised… and if any business isn’t cashing in on the current market, then thats on them…its a seller market. We the people have let it happen

Still waiting on Tractor (L2501DT)...Dealer saying they still don't have ETA from Kubota...looking like Xmas at this rate!

I have "worn out" a frontier and a countryline box blade so for me none of the light ones have stood up. I currently have an extreme duty from EA and it is holding up well. After several miles of use, it is showing it on the wear edges, but not bad and easily "built" back up. The structure is still solid so it will be worth refurbing over and over where the other two literally came apart over time even with continuous welding/patching.

I paid $1,850 or so a few months ago for an Everything Attachments 84" Category I/II Severe XTreme Duty Box blade V2.0 and it's a 720 lb beast. A friend was helping me last year to grade and area and he broke all four teeth on the Land Pride BB1248 that I used to have and that was behind the BX. This EA box blade will likely outlast me by many, many years.

do you have the one for <30HP ( 4 shanks 60") or the one for 30-70HP (5 shanks 60")?
Both are "extreme duty". One is 389 lbs, the other is 490. I might order an EA BB and sell my land pride BB1260 (when it arrives in 9 months lol)

never mind, I found it! you have the heavier 5 shank one, of course! guess i'll be ordering that one

Hydraulic Ripper / Scarifier on Box Blade

Has anyone done this? Having 5 individual tines on mine, adjusting up/down is a pain. Not being able to do it on the fly is a draw back as well. I Have the HD EA model and it looks like it would be easy enough to fab it up using a small piston. Any of you guys tackle this yet?

Update: I purchased this morning and got them to knock off another $100 along along with the $300 I already paid when I rented this attachment brand new. According to the salesman steal tariffs are killing them so I guess it makes sense why a heavy piece of equipment like this is going for much more then before. All in all I'm happy to now own it for basically $1,100 + tax. With my inexperience I'd probably screw up a cheaper model so also nice to have piece of mind.

Again, thanks all for the advice it really helped me make the right decision for my situation instead of just focusing on cost. Lots of good people on this blog!

Sounds to me like you got a fair deal. We would all love to get a GREAT deal, but in today's current environment it is a sellers market. Glad they worked with you to get a better price and now you have an implement that you can have for a lifetime.

One footnote, occasionally check the bolts that hold your blades on. I lost a couple before I decided to use some Loc-tite on them to reduce the chance of them working loose.
