I use Rotella T6 5w-40. It's full synthetic. Main reason is that I don't have a block heater and I use the tractor for snowblowing. That 5w cold weight made it much easier to start in the winter.

I've done snow at -8F.

Guessing in NC, you don't see 0 degrees F, or have to move snow much?

If so - - - I'm jealous, and 15w-40 would be fine!

But seriously, yes it will be fine. I run the T4 15w40 in my Powerstroke and the T6 5w40 in the Kubota.

edit: I also run the T6 5w40 in all my other gas engines (ZT, generators, pressure washer etc) except my wifes car and my daily driver car.

Question for you Shayne .......... whatcha pay for the T4? 13 bucks? If so - great oil for the cost.

But I would pay the EXTRA 10 bucks and buy the T6.... and you say why? Simply because it is that much better!!!! - it will flow better and it will protect better, is it more slippery? NO - but for the cost it is simply a better longer lasting oil .........

The T4 should be fine for your tractor. I'm using the full synthetic T6 version "just because". I've got enough invested in the tractor I choose to pamper it.

I think the biggest concern is the weight range for your temperatures.

I’ve used Rotella for years in Ford Powerstrokes. I think it’s a very good oil, but considering how cheap full synthetic is, I’d buy that. Usually for sale on Amazon or Walmart for a great price.

Also, I would not skimp on the filters. Buy a Kubota. That’s the advice given all over the Powerstroke forums. The OEM filters aren’t that much more and never fail. The others … not so much.

I run the T6 in mine and have been since I purchased it in 2014.

As mentioned above, maybe consider going with the T6 as it is full synthetic.

still running Fred's oil in all my stuff. Got a couple pallets of it when Fred's closed up. Less than $0.50/quart. Been using it for years now. I don't see no need to run anything more expensive, rather that extra money that I didn't spend can go to pay bills, or fuel in the truck when I decide to go fishing, or pool it over time and go on vacation. I took the GF to the coast for a week not long ago.

Yes that is a fine oil. The only thing better in my opinion may be what I used. Rotella T6 Fully Synthetic. Its a little more expensive though. Both will work fine though.

It’s one of the (many) things I love about NC. It does snow here, but if you ignore it for a day or two it goes away all on its own.

Here's my related oil question: Do you have to use Kubota oil when under warranty and new?
(I know of course that the all SAE same rated oils test to the same specs etc.)

FYI - I have traditionally used the Rotella t4 in tractors and flat tap[pet older engines and have moved to the T6 as extra assurance like above.

I have recently switched my older reg. vehicles to Mobil 1 Turbo diesel oil 5W40 after reviewing the levels in their spec charts, but still use the Rotella in the older tractor.

I am in Florida, so 15w-40 for me. The coldest I would probably ever be using this tractor is MAYBE rarely in the 40's or so. 90% of my usage however will be 50-90 degrees outside temperature, and mostly in the upper end of that range.

Oh and just to add - I am running the same Tractor as OP. L2501 HST 4wd.
