Try http://www.used-tractors.ca/ in Canada for used and grey-market parts. The steering column gearing has has died. Broken teeth and ball bearings.
I have tried Cross Creek, Southern Farm, Weavers Compact and All States Ag to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might find a salvaged column?
Are you asking D2 Cat for pics of the steering assembly he has available? Can you send more pictures of it?
yes, to see if it is like mine. Mine was working great and I took it to the dealership to replace a seal on the rear left axle and when I got it back the power steering doesn't work. It steers, but no assist. Before it was smooth and effortless like running on glass. Are you asking D2 Cat for pics of the steering assembly he has available?
It was a bit of work but I put one of those on my 1950 8n. What a difference with the arthritic shoulders! Got the control from the guy on ebay. I still have the 8n for snow plowing and firewood.I've seen a few people use the electric power steering from a Saturn Vue. They are remarkably inexpensive.
If it steers but no assist on a B8200 you do not have a bad gearbox. All hydraulic assist in steering is attached to the drag link.yes, to see if it is like mine. What exact tractor do you have? B8200 gear drive?
If so, I may have the gearbox. I removed from a tractor with 600 hrs or so and installed power steering.
Pretty amazing how many of those old 8N's are still around and still working just as good as any new tractor. Did you update the ignition system, or are you still running the old magneto hardware? It was a bit of work but I put one of those on my 1950 8n. What a difference with the arthritic shoulders! Why wouldn't it go right back to the dealer, in that case?yes, to see if it is like mine. The 8N didn’t have a magneto. (That would be a 2N). The 8N had points/condenser/coil ignition.Pretty amazing how many of those old 8N's are still around and still working just as good as any new tractor. Did you update the ignition system, or are you still running the old magneto hardware?
Yes I did update that when I changed to 12 volt adding a gm alternator. Those things made it a sure starter in the winter here in upstate new york. A couple years ago I did a valve job replacing all of them. An old mechanic local to me came and ground the valves for me with one of those, I think it was a Sioux valve grinders.Pretty amazing how many of those old 8N's are still around and still working just as good as any new tractor.
