Hi to all, I am a newbe here, new to Kubota. Having a blast moving dirt, gravel, firewood and generally having a great time. I was getting a little nervous about the 50Hr service...
I have been reading and watching videos about doing a 50Hr Service on my new BX2380/FEL.
A common thread seems to be that the factory puts the filters on to tight and require much effort to remove. Often deforming the filter with a filter wrench trying to get a good bite. I just did the oil and transmission service and used an old strap wrench I had from years ago. It is a bar with a fiber strap, the end of the bar connects to a 1/2" ratchet. Worked perfectly, no struggling, no busted knuckles, easy for both filters. Hope this helps someone out there!
Back to having fun,..

I like the channel-lock type filter pliers.

Took my first filters off. On a BX, your have some room to work with.

Try a Harley ...friggin thing is in a tight spot with voltage regulator. Probably toughest factory filter I've ever had.

Previous vehicles Ford Escort and Ford Taurus were the worst I've had for filter change.

I have the proper size filter wrenches I need with the metal bands, but I prefer to use the strap wrench instead. So much easier to maneuver. I even got an extra strap wrench to open the larger jars in the house. Works great on the stubborn pickle jars too! ;)

I bought my wife an electric jar opener. Old age and arthritis have diminished our ability to hold onto large jars.

A big ol' pair of channel-lock pliers is my go-to.

No one wrench works for all situations so I have several from a strap wrench to several sized cup wrenches. My goto is a few different sizes of Tekton oil filter pliers for my tractor and trucks.

I have the good fortune of having a great Matco Tool guy/truck that lives down the road from us. He sold me a filter wrench with small rectangles of brazing on the inside of the wrench's metal band. Really gives good grip on the filter.

Spin on filters are usually installed TOO TIGHTLY by owners. The outer ring-seal only deals with low-pressure return-oil and there’s no need to tighten the @#$%&@!! out of them. IN FACT..if we read the installation instructions they usually tell us to install them only 1/2-to 1-Full turn after the gasket contacts the base. Most Aviation Spin On Filters specify 16-18 INCH-pounds…. which should be a CLUE to this matter.

Also, the reason filter mfr’s instruct you to smear oil or grease on the gasket is NOT to SEAL the gasket… but only to prevent the gasket from twisting out-of-position while it is being seated. Aviation spin on filters are installed NOT with oil or grease…but with silicone-grease/lubricant…. same stuff often placed on light-bulb lamp-bases to prevent corrosion. (The problem with motor oil or grease is that heat will cook it turning it into carbonized/coke and that STICKS the gasket making it difficult to remove.

Try smearing silicone grease on the gasket and never tighten it more than 1-turn after the gasket touches the base. STOP twisting it until you can’t twist it anymore…. and it will be SOOooo easy to remove next time and it will NOT leak. (Check it after installation for leaks is good practice in any case.)

I have NINE different engines that utilize spin-on filters and I use the aviation-method on all of them and have NEVER had any problem whatsoever…and only need my (gloved) hand to remove them later. No tools necessary at all.

Hope this helps.

The metal cups also work pretty well if they are made well with a snug fit.

Man that is a nice set. Too bad it says currently unavailable. I just did the 50 hour on my RTV and I need to get some cap wrenches like that, that will fit the two transmission filters..

I'd never buy anything from that crooked organization, but I did buy a wrench like those to fit the filter on my BX at the locally own auto parts store. None of my money went for a joy ride to space. ;)

I can't get my hand in to the filter for all the other stuff in way, but I can set the filter in the wrench, on an extension, and reach it in real easy.
