Get the most benefit from your quick hitch. Buying new get QH compatible. Here is a photo of an implement whose manufacturer has their act together. Note how it's designed for cat 1 & 2. Also the lift arm spacing can be adjusted.

Some "QH compatible" only need minor modification. This TSC rake, come on TSC is it really compatible without a parking stand? I drilled holes for a bearing block and added 1" water pipe and flange.

This 6' Land Pride blade even has a quick hitch label. The problem, top link hole is set too far back. Buying a longer top link hook solves this problem. The faster cure, grab an angle grinder, cut off wheels and remove about 3/8" of steel from top link area.

King Kutter makes a 4'XB tiller - must be a sub cat 1. Purchased longer implement pins and spacing washers. The top link bushing was in the rear hole, moved to front and used bolts for rear supports.

Moving on to ballast box. I purchased a Titan box off Amazon. The top link hole was not in the same vertical plane as the lift pin holes and it was set too high. I used a QH top link adaptor in a unique way. Drilled new holes for top link pin.

Recommend a solid storage stand, you can back under ballast without knocking it over.

Let's up the mod game and fix RK/King Kutter subsoiler and middle buster. In the photo below you will see I run the top hook in the lowest holes. The easy fixs to raise the top hook by two holes - then everything else doesn't fit. First thing to do is create an adapter pattern. Trace the shape of the hook, attach implement and drill it's top link pin holes.

Where can I find a solid chunk of steel? Scrap out a 3pt drawbar. Angle grinder, hackzall, bench grinder (let the sparks fly)

It's only a 70# implement but, storage stands make for easy, quick connections.

Might as well mod the old junker King Kutter rake. The top center support was in the way. Cut it loose, used 4ton porta-power to jack it up out of the way. Drilled some holes then had a change of plans. Bought some flat stock drilled 3/4" holes for top mount an 3 1/4" holes through old top brace. Removed every other tine to turn it into rock/brush rake. Yep, it also needed a parking stand.

Modifying your attachments to fit your quick hitch makes your life easier and increases your productivity.

My QH has been back ordered but I'm more inclined now to pick up some used equipment that can be QH converted to save a few dollars.

Do you use a walking stick? Place it in the QH hooks mark positions on stick (tape, permanent marker or paint it). Attach small rare earth magnet between marks. Small 3' tape measure to check top link height. This would be useful at auctions, wandering used equipment lots, ect.

Best to buy stuff with correct dimensions or let you know if it has the potential for easy modification. Good luck, happy hunting.

I had to make modifications to a couple of implements to make them three point QH friendly. Using a Pat's should require less modifications but the top link requires attaching.

In the quick hitch spirit of backup, lift, drive off I made a parking stand for the boom pole.

Some implements need the top hook adjusted higher or lower than some other implements need. I drilled the adjustment holes a little larger so that I could fit pins through the holes instead of having to use a wrench to loosen the bolts for adjusting the top hook. Here is a picture.

Simple solution, seen it done before. I just prefer to standardize all my implements to 1 size standard.

Thanks for sharing your photo/solution.

This fall, purchased 5' box blade, it needed an extended top link hook. I purchased one from Quality farm supply for $26 + shipping (cheaper than Amazon)
You may find cheaper hook by googling part # SMA 873-HF141137

I’ve been looking at top link hooks for my HF QH and I was looking at this one but in all the pics I’ve seen.. it seems to lack some material around the back of the pin holes. Does anyone else think this might be a little light on material around an area that does take some abuse.. wether jarred around or even carrying a load and bouncing.

That’s where all the pressure is going to be right?? Here’s another I found, more money but looks to be beefier around the holes.

This is a really fantastic write up.

If you are going to use the QH system, do whatever it takes to make the old IMPLEMENT compatible with the QH, not the other way around. It will be a pain ONE time when you adapt it, then forever after it will be a breeze.

Even some brand new implements I have purchased that said they were QH compatible needed some adjustment to actually be compatible.

The biggest thing I can add to this is if you do a lot of implement changing (I tend to several times a day) and want the utmost ability to do a good job, adding a Top & Tilt (set of hydraulic cylinders) will be the icing on the cake for the QH. You can tilt and angle the QH from the seat as you line-up with the implement. And then the huge added benefit of the T&T while operating the implements.

After only one weekend with the QH, I can agree 100% with everything you just said!

Hello. I'm faced with modifying a back blade which is too narrow on the bottom links to mate with my quick hitch. I took the bottom link pin out of the back blade pictured below with the idea that I would buy a new pin long enough to make up the distance. The longest pin that I could find was 6.5". I could make this work by drilling a new hole for the roll pin into the Cat1 to Cat3 bushing more towards the end of the bushing for the roll pin. That seems a bit dodgy though as the bushing wouldn't be all the way on the bottom link to get the width I need.

Any other suggestions?

Hardware or farm store may have 7/8" bolts that are longer. Go for grade 8 or 5

I thought about going that route, but the problem is most bolts aren't fully threaded in that length. In fact, I couldn't find one searching online last night.

put bushing on bolt, spacing washers, insert into implement and add lock washer and nut
