How do you keep the pickup tube and the inside of the output hose clean when not in use?

Probably a large Zip Lock plastic bag, just like I do. Keeps the perfume under control as well........

No Zip Lock bags here. It was a bit dark but I went out and took a couple of pictures of how my setup is now:
First, the nozzle has a cork stopper to prevent dust/dirt intrusion and it works very well. The suction and output hoses now have garden hose connectors making the entire setup easy to assemble/disassemble. The openings have caps/plugs and the suction is painted green to prevent a mixup. The PVC suction tube has a cap and is simply wiped off before and after use.
This setup is handy dandy and I seriously doubt that any other modifications will be made.

Thanks for doing that, Magicman. Looks like I've got some thinking to do to get a set up that will work to get the fuel into the tractor, keeping it clean, etc., but also reducing the perfume!

This fuel pump came about as a necessity after my shoulder surgery this past February. I added a 12v block on the sawmill to power the pump, and the battery terminal on the starter serves very well on the tractors.
After the fillup, I let the pump purge the pump and hoses back into the fuel jug. I wear gloves so no problem with the perfume.

Thanks magicman, especially for the photos. I would like to make a similar rig. I have a spare battery that I could leave nearby on a tender. The fill in the 2650 is up on the hood, and if I put about half of my 3 gal in the L tractor first, I can balance on the mower deck and hoist the rest up to balance on another box, but this is less than fine.

TG you have discovered a key feature of this forum: a question and its answers benefit more than just the person asking it! Old threads are stored and are searchable too.
Another key point when using cans. Just because it is say, a five gallon can, you do not have to put five gallons in it. For example I usually put four gallons in, I find that manageable for me.

They actually do around here, gas pumps out front but the off road might be behind or on the side of the store - definitely out of the way!!
Most Places set them up by the KERO pumps that way someone dont screw up and put dyed fuel in a diesel truck,, and then get dipped some place down the road and wind up paying a big fine, and the station would be in trouble as well. Also go in and ask,, Hey you got off road fuel? If not, then regular over the road fuel it is all the same stuff just more expencive
Beginning to see things that have been there all along but I didn't need them! That's the way life is, I think.

At the little convenience store down the road, the diesel pump is between the other two gas pumps. It does not have green so I'm gathering this is off-road diesel. Price is $2.05/gallon.

They are expensive but don’t leak, control flow with the handle so you really don’t need to touch where the fuel is and they are the only small yellow (diesel) can I can find. The shape is easy to hold and enough leverage to pour easily.
They are a bit difficult to fill but not bad.
