After a week of no rain and seasonable temps we got hit Labor Day. A front moved down from the north and stalled over our area dumping over 6" of rain in seven hours. First round hit with high winds and tornados and a quick 1.5' of rain. Second round started about an hour later with torrential rain but minimal winds. Great way to discover that the plumbing contractor did not seal the drain pipe leaving the house. At least it was clean water coming in to an unfinished basement. I was able to position a 20 gal tub under the line and catch most of it. Between 10 and 3AM it filled up 6 times. Got my workout hauling buckets over to the sump pit that night. Overall not too bad until we had a lightening strike within 20' of the house. We were lucky. Tripped a few breakers and GFCI's. We lost a few electronics, TV, internet router, TV receiver, garage door openers and power anode to the HW tank. but no structural damage and no major appliances down. Seems most everything plugged in to a surge suppressor made it fine. Internet router and TV receiver is covered by my providers and replacements should be here by Friday, the water ingress issue is in the hands of my builder and their warranty, dept. Worst case I have to dig it out and get some hydraulic cement to seal up around that pipe from the outside. Hopefully I can get new controller boards from Ryobi for my GDOs. Hate to replace the entire unit if I don't have to. Time to dust off the home owners policy and see what is covered.
