After a week of no rain and seasonable temps we got hit Labor Day. A front moved down from the north and stalled over our area dumping over 6" of rain in seven hours. First round hit with high winds and tornados and a quick 1.5' of rain. Second round started about an hour later with torrential rain but minimal winds. Great way to discover that the plumbing contractor did not seal the drain pipe leaving the house. At least it was clean water coming in to an unfinished basement. I was able to position a 20 gal tub under the line and catch most of it. Between 10 and 3AM it filled up 6 times. Got my workout hauling buckets over to the sump pit that night. Overall not too bad until we had a lightening strike within 20' of the house. We were lucky. Tripped a few breakers and GFCI's. We lost a few electronics, TV, internet router, TV receiver, garage door openers and power anode to the HW tank. but no structural damage and no major appliances down. Seems most everything plugged in to a surge suppressor made it fine. Internet router and TV receiver is covered by my providers and replacements should be here by Friday, the water ingress issue is in the hands of my builder and their warranty, dept. Worst case I have to dig it out and get some hydraulic cement to seal up around that pipe from the outside. Hopefully I can get new controller boards from Ryobi for my GDOs. Hate to replace the entire unit if I don't have to. Time to dust off the home owners policy and see what is covered.

Well that just plain sucks Johnny boy, sure hope things get taken care of for you before too long. We've been very lucky here so far but the season is upon us so it won't be long. Couple times they called for showers here over the years and the next morning I woke up to my boat and motor under water so now if they call for showers the boat comes out. Good luck to you my friend, let us know how things go.

Thanks. On the plus side, I got something now to do with all that free time right? Struck out getting parts from Ryobi. They had to suspend production due to a copyright infringement with another manufacturer. Will pick up a couple units from Home Depot this afternoon and at least get the main door in operation for the wife.

Awesome, I like when people look at the bright side instead fixating on the bad. Good luck to you and your wife my friend, soon this will be just a distant memory.

It's good that no one got injured and structures weren't affected. Something simillar happened to me too in 2015 half of my roof got ripped off and all the stuff plugged in was broken. But from every experience we learn something important, don't we? :D:D

John - - while it does suck, thankfully no damage beyond what you got. Hopefully the lightening damage is fixable/replaceable easily.

We got about 4" in an hour couple years ago.

Neighbor's place was flooded, and there was stone/dirt/silt throughout the neighborhood. Place across the road still has a pile with about 20 yards of dirt stone he peeled off his lawn.

Yup. It’s just stuff and that can be replaced. People can’t. Time to pull the bootstraps up and take care of what needs done. Hopefully we dry out enough to brush hog the property this Saturday. Walked it at lunch today and we still have 2-3” of standing water in spots. Took the 4 wheeler back in the woods and it looks like April. No chance of getting the 3200 back there with the brush hog to do trail maintenance. I guess I got some winter cutting to go along with firewood cutting. Thanks for letting me vent a bit. Picked up two new openers this evening and will get one in at lunch and the other after work tomorrow. Will grab a new tv when I come across a good sale.

Will your homeowners insurance cover the damaged electrical goods?

Mine will up to a point after that they say you need a rider for electrical stuff, and in reality I think it depends a lot on your Ins agent and how far they want to go for you
