A good friend of mine was performing work at a medical group office building. One of the Dr's there mentioned that in addition to his regular duties, he volunteered to do Covid testing as well. They perform two tests (nasal swab and saliva) on each individual. If the patient is positive from BOTH TESTS, can you guess how they are counted?

If you guessed TWO, you'd be correct.

I also read somewhere that a hospital is paid an extra $3500/patient with Covid. It's pretty simple folks, follow the money.

We (in eastern PA) are still in the yellow phase according to our wonderful governor. We've been locked down since the second week in March. If you're at risk, by all means take precautions. Otherwise, let us make our own decisions and open the freaking state back up. I'm really tired of this BS.

Most people are from what I see. People today exhibit little patience anyway. we live in a 'I want it now and I want it cheap' society so having patience is a thing of the past.

I'm sure the virus is patient though. Patiently waiting to infect the impatient.

I understand. One would hope the testing for active cases is improving, but given what I heard yesterday about useless government supplied swabs, not so sure about that. As I said, asymptomatic positives should be tested again in a week. Try to rule out false positives and see if still asymptomatic. But then I am not in charge....and how many people would come back for the second test?
I wonder if some of those useless swabs made their way to my wife's work. They just did mandatory testing at her facility between thursday and friday. We'll find out the test results this week.

If they made the second testing mandatory to be cleared to go back to work, then it would be a motivator for a good majority of working folks. Especially the ones living pay check to pay check.

Some would want to know for sure regardless. And others wouldn't care at all. It also would depend on what the employer has in place for quarantine assistance and such.

Bottom line here is... Covid, like the Asian Flu is here to stay so dealing with it is an ongoing thing. What was normal a year ago will never be normal from here on out and people need to accept that and act accordingly and exhibit maturity.

Life is all about choices. You make good ones and bad ones and you get to live (or die) with the choice you make.

I have done jobs for and shaken hands with three doctors since this began. Looked at the jobs (mask free), did the jobs (mask free) etc. One of them worked side by side with me all day

3 different doctors in three different towns. You would think they would be the most protective of their personal space.

The regular flu has been here since time began. If they inflated the regular flu numbers like they do with this one, you would be scared of that every year as well.

There is no "forever" thing here. Normal is right around the corner for most normal people.

Florida and other states where they relaxed the rules of engagement are going through the roof on confirmed cases. I read one bar in Florida was contact traced to 15 confirmed cases. Oh well, you play, you pay...

NH is up to 138 deaths so far. The good news is none of the elderly that normally pass away during the same timeframe have passed away from anything but covid. Even the old guy in the car accident in Coos county. It wasn't the logging truck that killed him on his way home, it was covid.

So all the normal elderly killers are gone. That is news we can celebrate! Sounds absurd right? But if we get all scared about these manipulated numbers, shouldn't we be celebrating at the same time? The regular flu is gone, all the normal elderly killers are gone. This should be a happy time.

Sleddog, count your blessings that so few have died of anything in New Hampshire. No telling what underlies their counting system. As I mentioned before each state has its own methods. It did occur to me that if over counting covids has a financial benefit to a hospital, then that is one of the downsides of running healthcare as a business. Sure hate to see dishonesty like that, but no surprise. I called the business office in the hospital after reviewing an exhorbitant bill for an er visit. Medicare paid it all, but made me mad. Thousands to have a cat scan and a med student put in a few stitches after I fell down stairs and hit my head on a concrete wall. No criticism of the care I received only the charges.

And again, the elephant walked right by.

So no elderly have died like usual? All the hospice deaths, they just stopped (only covid deaths)? The old guy hit by the truck?

The other day a woman on the local FB forum was complaining that her dad went into hospice in October and passed in Feb. He had covid when he passed and was counted as a covid death. How did he have covid in Oct.? And hospice as we all know is the end of the road. So, yes they gave him covid WHILE in hospice and then reported that he died by it.

People like flip are ready to shoot someone for standing too close based on a bunch of BS numbers.

It is very obvious there is a huge political game at play here and for the most part the lemmngs are all lock-step.

For someone so well spoken, it is surprising that the elephant just keeps dancing around your room. The spin is commendable. Seriously how much bad data and mis-reporting does it take before you start discounting what they say? For me the first lie is enough.

It's an issue for me that the motivations of a few to manipulate a situation can be so stifling for so many.

If the sentiments expressed in the attached image are held by even a small number of persons, recovery may be a long ordeal.

It is obviously fake. I am no FBI analysts but I have heard her talk way to many times. Her statement would have read more this way,

"It's like vital that the governors like keep like restrictions until like after the nov elections like....."

Sorry, the patterns do not match.

I couldn't say if it was/was not fake either way. But this particular congresswoman's actions speak for themselves. I think this one really does feel that way...booting an Amazon HQ from her district? Awesome! I saw that she once again won her primary...I hope that all that support this type truly "reap what they sow".

Maybe she should go back to tending bar?
I don't like her either, but it is a fake according to politifact and snopes

Sleddog, I did try to say that I saw and recognized that from where you sit there is an awful lot of misreporting of cases and deaths.

I am coming at it from a different place. I don't base my conclusions on these numbers, and I am not sure who "they" is. I truly hope that this virus is overblown. But I am not willing to assume that right now. Too much is NOT known about the long term health effects of catching it. It amuses me that in our state they list the number of positive tests, number dead, and a number called "recovered". Recovered is defined as anyone who tested positive and didn't appear in the dead column within 30 days! Some of these are the ones that were essentially asymptomatic and are getting on with life just fine, and some have a headache every day, or can't move out of their tracks.

We don't know what the effects are of covid on unborn fetuses, or the effects of having it 10 and 20 years later. I had measles, 2 kinds, mumps, chicken pox, and intestinal parasites the
first year I went to school. And as a consequence have had shingles twice. Many years later. More on this kind of thing later. No one has ever accused me of being an optimist!

Sheep, I'm not sure how you were able to quote me since I had deleted my post after I clicked the "Post Reply" above????? While the statements that I made in your quote are actually what I believe, I chose not to post them. Perhaps, there is a glitch in this new version (users can't delete their posts)???

Anyway. I still think that AOC is a tool...

I have refrained from posting in this forum because my initial posts many weeks back when this thread first started weren't taken too well. In those posts I essentially shared the belief that this was being overblown. Like sleddog has shared here regarding his wife, my wife is a nurse as well. She has worked in hospitals, in ICU's, and is currently the assistant director of nursing at a skilled nursing facility. They also have positive cases in the facility both among staff and patients. My wife has been on the front lines, especially the last many weeks here in Florida as the cases increase. She is testing for covid almost daily now and often having to work all day in full PPE and a mask, to the point that she comes home dehydrated, hot, and nauseous. At my job, we have had positive cases, even some I have worked in close proximity with are now home having tested positive. I have had to undergo testing, as well as my wife multiple times. My wife is currently home feeling a little under the weather while we await another test. I say all that to say that my opinion on this all comes from a fairly up close perspective on this mess. We know a lot of people who are positive right now, some of them we know very well.

All that being said, we still feel this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. Of all the cases we know of, and having some knowledge of several hundred here in my local county - not a single one of them has progressed beyond just a mild illness. In many cases folks who tested positive are at home and wishing they could go back to work because they have zero symptoms and are just getting behind. We know of some who have totally lost their job over this now. Unless you are immunocompromised, or are already in a poor, weakened state, this virus is nothing more severe than the common cold or flu, and in a large many cases its not showing any symptoms at all. Even in elderly people that my wife is seeing every day who are infected, if they are healthy older folks they are powering through it with little issue. The ones who are struggling are the ones you would expect to struggle - because they would struggle with ANY infection in their current state.

Yes there are some random cases out there of young healthy people just going down to this thing. The media has done a great job of pulling that 0.1% out of the mix and highlighting it. In context however, that is also to be expected. The Flu also kills some young and healthy people every year. This covid 19 thing however has grown into a massive global vortex of fear, the world media has pulled out their microscope and put this virus under amplification and is just pumping out story after story after story and the vortex has swallowed everyone up - even those who realize its being overblown are forced to swim with the current. If it werent for the media however, and we had treated this just like we did the swine flu in 2009 - how many of us would even realize there was a pandemic occuring? most people wouldnt know anything was even amis. Everyone around here has been talking about our massive upswing of cases in our rural county - over 80% of our case explosion however has been prison inmates. The virus hit our prison and has infected a lot of prisoners. I also know, from talking to the folks at the prison, that only about 3 of the over 200 infected there had even run a fever. None of them have had anything more than minor illness. There again, if not for the media and all the hype, all the folks at the prison would know is that they had 3 prisoners running a slight fever. Perspective is EVERYTHING. If the media focused on the average flu season as hard as we have focused on this virus, we could kill a good number of people every year just from sheer fear and panic of the invisible boogey men.

We've had similar experiences here. My wife is a department head and nurse at a local nursing facility. Daughter is an RN at a neo-natal intensive care unit, and a niece is an RN on the med surge unit at a local hospital.

My Daughter is the only one being extremely cautious. But she works with Premie's and doesn't want to give the virus to a newborn.

My niece and wife are both saying the same thing. The nursing home my wife used to work at got hit by Covid. They had 56 infected, and 6 deaths listed to covid. 4 patients got sick. Everyone else was Asymptomatic, or didn't experience anything that couldn't be contributed to seasonal allergies.

Out of the 6 people that passed away. 4 were Asymptomatic. Two of the patients that had symptoms and tested positive for covid recovered. One of the patients was 97 years old and featured on a local news piece.

1 of the Asymptomatic patients was 107 years old, stage 4 cancer, and on hospice before the infection came into the building.

I agree with your analogy about the flu. If it was covered as much as this, people would be in fear of leaving there house.

Wowzer.
