Hey folks, I'm looking for suggestions on another range toy in a gov't length single stack 1911 in 9mm. That would be its only purpose (range enjoyment). So far, I've been looking at reviews/videos on the Colt Competion (SS) and a Sig 1911 TACOPS. I think the Sig would be a Series 80 but the Colt would be a series 70. All of my other 1911's are series 70.

For 1911 styled "clones", I have Rock Ultra FS and Ruger SR1911 (lightweight commander) in .45 acp.
Sig, P938 in 9, and GSG 1911-22 ADOP (with fake can) that I absolutely love.

I'm definitely set on another 1911, but, I just want a full sized one in 9mm for the range. If anyone has something that they really like in the 9 mm variant 1911, let me know and I'll put it on my watch list.

Thanks in advance.

I don't own one but I have shot a couple 1911 in 9mm. They shot well,, I should say they shot better than I can shoot. I carried a 1911 for years but age found me and I found it kept pulling my pants down .. not a pretty sight. SO I went with the Sig it is about the only one I found that has almost the same grip angle as the 1911. But I would not hesitate to carry a 1911 in 9, it would be a pretty neat EDC

Kimber has always intruded me and built with quality here in the USA . No I don't own one. But will.
If you've ever watched Alaska the last fronter. One of the sons wears a chest holster. I believe its a Kimber 10mm in the bush there in Homer.

Skeets- I hear you. They are quite heavy. I do carry the Ruger lightweight commander on occasion when I'm feeling "Frosty". :) It's an aluminum framed commander with a titanium feed ramp...so hollow points are no issue. It weigh's in at about 29 ounces and is a lot of fun to shoot.

WFM- I currently don't have a Kimber but I've shot a few. They're nice shooting pistols and I also believe that they are well made. I just don't care for the looks of them. maybe it was just the bi-tone versions...I know, that's a bit silly. I'm just picky I guess. Yes, I remember seeing one of the kilchers carrying one. I thought that it looked like a Colt Delta Elite to me (that would make it a 10mm). I could be wrong.

Have a Kimber Crimson Carry Ultra and a Les Baer, both 45's.

I’m far from a 1911 expert. I’m left handed, which does cause you to look at their designs, because some aren’t conducive to a lefty.
I got a Springfield Armory XDS a few years ago in .45 as a CCW.
I like it, but made Croatia bothers me. Single stack makes it small.
Not helpful to you dirty, but the XD’s were pretty good a few years ago.

I had watch a segment of Guns and Ammo TV a while back and they visited the Les Baer factory.
A truly fine piece of craftsmanship. They go way beyond whats generally needed for quality. If I remember right the prices started north of $2500. depending on model.

Look at SA Loaded...lifetime warranty.

i have about 9k through mine...not one issue ever...easy to shoot, nice trigger...

in CA because of our roster they are expensive...in free states they are a deal and usually 2-300 less than here...

Can't figure out how to multiquote, so:

RCW: XDS are nice, gave them very careful consideration years ago for CC. Got a P938 instead, and a shield, finally ending up with the SIG P365. The P365 is my go to now....along with a little S&W bodyguard in 380 when I have to go the very minimalist route. I really dislike that thing, but it beats a sharp stick.

WFM; Yes, they are VERY nice. But I'm looking for something in the 1K range. I should have mentioned that in my first post. Sorry.

Tarmy- agreed, the "SA loaded" pistols are sweet looking, but not available in 9mm. I have two others in .45, I just have a hankering for a 9mm in a 1911.

I haven't really checked availability lately, but I think I'm willing to wait for the right one.

I have the Springfield Armory 1911 in 9mm. It was fine tuned by thier gunsmiths thanks to a friend that has a connection there. It shoots way better than I can. Also look at the Wilson Combat 1911's. Our family hideaway in Arkansas is just down the county Rd. from them

Just saw a deal posted at cabelas/basspro for a Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer Elite Target (in 9mm) for $760. I'm so tempted...but I'm thinking of holding out for the Colt Competition in SS if they ever come back into stock.

Maybe I have to get them both?

My last purchase thru cabelas was a total nightmare. I used my points to get a P365, ordered online and simply had to go to pick up my purchase from the store. It took approx 3.5 hours to finally walk out with it. Even though I didn't pay a cent out of pocket for it, the whole experience was excruciating...

Still hunting for that illusive FS 1911 in 9mm. I've only found a couple on gundeals and most are overpriced. I do hope the shortage ends soon. Its looking like I should've jumped on the Cabelas deal.

I fear as long as things keep going as it is, prices are not going to come back in to the reality zone. Most of the small shops I have been in are gouging the hell out of people for both ammo and firearms. When you find .38's at a buck 10 a round thats BS and you see something you KNOW what it is worth marked up 75% of what it is listed,, well there ya go

For sure Skeets. I get "weekend deal" notifications from many suppliers. When I click the link, it says 115 grain fmj 9mm at $.90/round!!! What a deal. hahaha

I got really lucky and snagged a hornady lock n load progressive press 2 months ago. Friends donated lots of reloading supplies, so, I'm good....for now anyway.

Just had my Kimber 45 ACP out this morning and dispatched a rabid racoon with it. Love that Crimson Trace laser grip. Put the dot where you want impact and squeeze lightly.

I speak with extensive experience about the Kimber 1911's in 45 ACP. Kimber makes a very accurate pistol and one of the most reliable pistols that I have ever shot. I can highly recommend a Kimber in 45 ACP. I have shot one 9MM made by Kimber that was the Micro 9 mm if I remember correctly. It would often jam because of muzzle flip when shot by people with large hands that could not get a proper grip. There was nothing wrong with the action, it was just the inability of the shooter with large hands to get a proper grip on that small of a pistol.
