I have an L6060 with 10-16.5 front tires. I would like to put a 12-16.5 on there. Since I am 4WD, would this cause a problem due to height differential? I need a wider tire in the front because I often seem to bury my fronts in soft ground

Yep. The 'lead-Lag; ratio must be kept to the factory specification or eventually you'll destroy the FWA and you will also experience adverse tire wear.

On any FWA tractor, increasing the diameter of one axle's tires cause the need to increase the other axle's tire diameter as well, or reduce as the case may be.

The rolling circumference is approximately 10" difference between the two sizes for Titan Trac Loader series of tires.

Great info: I do understand the impact of different sizes on the 4wd vehicle. That’s why I am posting for the experts here for guidance. What tire can I put on the front of my machine that is wider than 10-16.5 and stay within the appropriate tolerance? I guess i need to know how much additional diameter is too much? 3” is a bunch....

So what do you recommend that I do in order to stay within the factory recommended lead/lag? Put the 12/16.5 on the front and then try to find rear tires that have an extra 10” of rolling circ?

I would be checking with a good equipment tire dealer and ask him what tires fall into the correct rolling circumference then look at the widths that are made larger then the tires that you now use. If there is a strong desire for the wider tires you may need to have a rim made to the correct size for the tire you pick. I would check with several different dealers of different brands to find the most cost effective way to go.

I guess I need to better articulate the question: Does anyone on this site, know where I can find the Kubota recommended lead/Lag tolerance information for my Kubota L6060? I know better than to put taller tires on the front without addressing this issue somehow. I completely understand that the front tires have to slightly pull the rear tires rather than to have the rear tires pushing the front. I clearly recognize that a front tire with larger circumference than what the manufacturer installed would create exactly the pushing situation that I described. I prefer NOT to rely on a tire dealership to give me the information that I think ought to come from Kubota. After all, Kubota would know the gear ratio, I seriously doubt that the tire dealer knows it. Wouldn't it be awful to know better, then allow a tire dealer who may or may not have the appropriate specifications to advise, and burn up a gearbox as a result?

This has been posted here before.
This information applies to John Deere machines. But it is as helpful! I have determined that my Kubota came from the factory with a lag of 3%. Upsizing to what I want gives me a lead of 8%. Im not sure which is worse..... ANY lag or TOO MUCH lead.

Actually, any competent ag tire dealer can calculate it or will have the specs for different tractors. Most farmers today run FWA tractors and they all deal with lead-lag.

Well folks I am sorry to beat this dead horse. It appears that my machine already has 2.9% lag with the factory supplied R4 tires. As I am learning that ANY lag is unacceptable..... putting the 12-16.5 tires on the front will give me a 9% lead. I find myself asking which is worse? 9% lead? Or 3% lag? I guess I’m glad to tackle this because that lag is probably what’s giving me grief anyway.

Yes I don't believe kubota always has it right with the lead lag from the factory, I got the gear ratio for my l3000dt and figured out it had a 9 or 10% lead, I am planning on up sizing the read tires from 11.2-24 to 12.4-24 to give me a 3-4% lead. From my research you are better off with lead.

Hi I’m brand new to the site and I do realize this is an old thread but I wanted to share my experience
I changed the front tires on my m 62 to 12-16.5 from 10-16.5
(8.25 rims to 9.75 as well)
And the rears from 17.5l-24 to 16.9-24 to maintain proper gear ratio
Fantastic upgrade in multiple ways !

So you went from R4's (industrials) to R3's (turfs)

M62, those are some awesome tires? Use myM59 on the farm so like the aggressive tread.

For the front switched to these switch gave better traction particularly in loader operations.

I wanted wider fronts I would leave ruts crossing lawns with a full front bucket

The traction advantages of radial vs bias is something that needs to be experienced to fully appreciate

Ordering a new L6060 cab tractor with loader. Going to buy tractor less rims and tires.
My plan on tires is:
Rear order R4 rim and install Michelin. 460/70 R24 Cross grip all season radial tires.

Front: Order MX 16.5 rims and install BKT 31.5 x 13-16.5 R4 tires.

Will end up with stock R4 Dia front and back with 1.5" wider rear and 3" wider front.
