Kapaa, Hi.
Hi I posted on another thread about a not start issue but no luck and needed to get the machine up and running and other mechanic friends could not figure it out so I called Bacon Universal and the mechanic troubleshooted and found the the ECU under the seat Pt#TD350-53004 $1097.00 was bad and needed to change so I approved the repair. At this point labor hours was at 10 hrs @$160.00. Part came in, changed it, machine started. When I received the bill it was $6000.00+ I sh*t my self. They added another ECU Assy Pt#1H518-60300 $2186.00 which they never called me to ok that part and no where on the labor notes I saw anything about changing 2 ECU's just the first one under the seat and at this point the labor was 12.50hrs. When I questioned the bill the service manager said oh the 2 ECU's work together and both needed to be changed. This is the whole reason I try to fix things myself. I am trying to find out if its true that both ecu's need to be changed together? If so they still should have called to ok the additional ECU.

Thanks
Jerry

For 6 grand I would have pooped my drawers as well. Dang electronic stuff is expensive. Kind of surprised about the labor rate and total hours charged. That is plug and play basically and their hourly rate is pretty high as well. My dealer is at 80 bucks an hour. Guess I'm getting a bargain.

Mechanic spent most of his time there talking to a Kubota Service Adviser on the phone.

Wowzer, an expensive phone conversation...for you.

I'm curious as well,, is this an authorized Kubota dealer or just some multiple brand repair shop?

I realize stuff is much higher in cost in the islands but that is pretty steep for anywhere.

Almost took a job with Shell Oil on the big island until I found out what it would cost to live there. The pay was fantastic but the cost of living and expenses made the wage look small.

The difference between the (outrageous) $2700 you actually approved.... and their $6000 final bill is worth an enthusiastic argument! I’d hire a lawyer at that point!

Hell, I’m having trouble imagining why it takes TEN HOURS to determine an ECU is bad.

Wow, that a hefty bill. Have gone through the same problem with a car repair. No repair approved unless I said so. Garage went and did the repair without my approval and therefore I was not going to pay. Hope it works out for you. I looked at the emissions warranty and its 5 years or 3000 hours. ECU would be covered.

They share data back and forth but they are not uniquely paired. You can replace one without the other. Ask your dealer to show you what he is referencing from to replace the second one.
