Whilst I applaud the sentiment, I'm not sure if I would trust my life to a mask made by a shoe manufacturer who is hoping to "ideally reach FDA standards".
The danger with any PPE which is not specifically designed to a certain standard for a specific purpose is that someone who feels they are protected (but in reality are not) will put themselves in harms way.
I see people wearing dust masks for this virus that don't even work for dust but they feel safe and maybe don't take all the necessary precautions.
Even a certified N-95 compliant mask is not PPE unless it is fit-tested to the individual. Everybody's face is a slightly different shape and no mask seals every face. We are fit tested annually. The process takes about 10 or 15 minutes (probably 1/2 that for the N-95 alone, but we are tested for our SCBA facepieces at the same session). The mask is connected to a test bench by tubing and you have to follow the computer prompts -- bending over, turning your head, talking out loud, deep breathing, etc.

Any mask that you have not been fit-tested for is not PPE.

Any mask that is not worn properly is not PPE. I've seen way too many pictures of people wearing them below their nose, or over a beard, etc. etc. Very often health care workers that should bloody well know better!

That is not to say they shouldn't be worn -- they may provide you with some limited protection. But the greatest advantage is that, like surgical masks, they provide protection for others. They will trap and divert droplets that you exhale. So if you are one of the 5% or so that has Covid but are asymptomatic, wearing a mask limits the spread to others.

Some of the hoarding must have passed. Noticed that Sam's club lifted the one case limit on bottled water.

Surprisingly enough they had TP as well. I've never heard of the brand. And I'm not sure if it's the chuck Norris type.

The other surprise. We were able to find hand sanitizer in 3 seperate places. Wife got some when she ordered and picked up her make up. Then later found some in Sam's club. So we got a bottle for my daughter, and a bottle for me to keep in my back pack I carry for work.

Then today we found a fifth of hand sanitizer at the local grocery store

That's an institutional brand of TP. Probably lots of it available, since no one is at work to use it.

How many of you believe that opening states for business as usual is a good thing. Myself I do believe it's too soon and disrespectful for the people on the front lines especially the health care workers that are risking their lives and their families lives everyday. I understand that the world economy is in the chitter and how can you continue with no funds coming in, a tough place to be in for sure. Short of developing a vaccine we are in for a rough ride not to mention what's going to happen if and when a cure is found. Fasten your seatbelts kids the road ahead is going to be bumpy. JMHO of course.

if, IF, ALL the people of the World had stood 6' apart for 2 weeks THEN it'd be business as usual.... Effectively everyone had gone on vacation for 2 weeks, the economy wouldn't have been hurt....no big deal...

opening up for business now is bad as it'll allow CV19 to popup again and again.... it's like my arch nemesis Bindweed... attack it, think it's gone, arrrgh, it pops up again, and again....usually with a vengence.

the problem I see is that not everyone is 'social distancing', so CV19 keeps spreading...

That's a big IF my friend, not gonna happen. There is no easy out with this one. When I see people on the news standing shoulder to shoulder protesting I just have to shake my head. I just wish it were possible to make these people work in the ER for one week and then see what they think. There is no fixing stupid and ignorance is not bless.

The problem with this virus is it has a mulit-level marketing plan. Each one gets not one, but a few! And so it goes.

Just like Singapore. Had it whipped and then all hell broke loose. I see that happening here as well.

Just got my NM Elk draw results back. I didn't draw. Actually fine with me because I wasn't gonna go anyway. This way I don't eat the 800 buck application fee, just part (85 bucks) of it. Gotta support the state of New Mexico where they have the largest population on government assistance per capita of any state in the union...:D

Maybe next year but then again, maybe not. I still have a Maine Moose draw pending and lots of preference points in Maine. Been playing the Bullwinkle lottery for about 10 years now.

This disease and others are with us for the foreseeable future. The only way to get work life and economy going is for every business and industry to rethink how folks work and figure out how to do it safely. What products and supplies are most needed for a future that is different from what anyone thought, and let's make those. No point in saying let's get back to normal. Not possible.

How does someone cut your hair without breathing on you? What kind of PPE do they need?
How about redesigns of public transport systems? Ventilation systems?
Single occupancy vehicles for hire?
More ways of using technology to communicate without being in physical proximity.
How to get and keep agricultural labor forces clean and safe? Those folks have lived in deplorable conditions for decades. Now is a good time to figure out how to provide decent living accommodations and sanitation in the fields and orchards. Not cheap, but doable.

All good questions and I wish I had the answers, dang I wish someone had the answers. It's becoming quite clear we are in for some tough times and the world as we no it now or should I say the world we used to know is probably gone forever which may not be such a bad thing if we all learn from this. The old saying things have to get worse before they get better I think applies.

Singapore is coming here, make book on it. least here in the USA, not sure about Canada. This 'opening up' the country is way too soon. We can visit this comment in 6 months.

I believe it will carry a lot of weight then.

I totally agree with you Flip, it's too soon, I guess time will tell.
