Re: Is the sky falling?

Tomorrow we go shopping, I can hardly wait......
Good luck Flip. I put my parents on lock-down, no more trips out for them. I gave them both 4 GrandUber kids numbers to call if they need anything.

I am not sure of the ages of everyone here but if you can help out someone older and allow them more time away from the crowds, it could quite possibly save their life.

Really do they think closing the bars on ST Patrick's day is going to keep Pittsburgh from getting drunk?

We are being very careful believe me. Out here I doubt that anyone is impacted but you never know do you?

Hell, I'm only 70, even Biden's pick for HHS says 75 is good enough... He gives me 5 more years. Glad he's thoughtful....

Wife and I discussed it just a while ago. Like she said, we cannot crawl in a hole just because and I agree. I have things top do and places to go. Maybe not people to see however....lol

We do need TP however and some Spam and cold cereal....:)

I'm probably not being as careful as I should. Having two old friends over tomorrow, they are from Maryland, but I haven't seen them in a long time. After that may hibernate as it is heating up around here.

I am low on coffee, but discovered the kind I like on Amazon so I can avoid the grocery store. You can order stuff online at Krogers and pick it up.

All the bars in my area closed last night. Gonna be strange having no parades or bars on St. Patrick's Day. We might accidentally become a nation of finely tuned athletes :D

Re: Is the sky falling?

My buddies brother in law and his wife got on a plane yesterday and flew to Florida because they had a vacation booked, other people that were supposed to go with them cancelled. When they got on the plane there was one other person besides themselfs. Just how stupid does one have to be to risk their lives needlessly because they want some heat and to go golfing? How many other idiots are out there that believe they're right and everyone else is wrong. Don't answer that, we're doomed.

Unfortunately, as you pointed out, I think the mindset that this won't happen to me or these recommendations don't apply to me are widespread. Because of this mindset, I think we will see in the coming days more restrictive measures taken by the government trying to limit the spread of the outbreak. The government asked, but people didn't listen, so now they will demand.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

As I understand some states are going to demand that bars and eating establishments close. The public will not take to kindly to this experiment in social control, just MHO

I think you are 110% right. Today, the population, in general, left to their own devices (stupidity) will always make a poor decision and then whine about it of course.

I'm against mandatory government intervention but, in this case, it's the best plan of attack

It's the 'chicken little' philosophy. Why there is little to no TP to be had among other stuff. All about me and heck with you. So long as (me) is taken care of, that's all that is important. You (can pound salt). Problem is the virus isn't selective except for the very young so the chances of contracting it are very real and the 'about me' folks cannot choose.

Interestingly, if you look at the map, the largest concentrations are on the east and west coasts and the farther inland you go, the less there are. Guess rural American is the place to be, for now at least.

Re: Is the sky falling?

Since they switched to online classes last week, the students went to the bars instead, the lines were out the door. All they have to hear is one person say it is silly media hype and they do what they want, which is party. So the bars and restaurants are closed except for pickup.

Regrettably I have asked my friends not to visit today, and I spent yesterday cooking, but I woke up with a sore throat. Not worth taking a chance.

Already did (Ohio at least) and the CDC put out a statement, no gatherings over 50 people. Should be no gatherings period.

Self social control is impossible today because no one listens to anything that has any common sense so it must be forced. Of course they won't take kindly to it, but the alternative isn't very 'kind' either.

No green beer at the pub on St. Pat's day this year....lol

Best news I've heard all day, not the sore throat thing but we need you here to keep some of us idiots in line not to mention you're a pretty good source of info. Plenty of time to get together with friends and family when this all blows over. Keep well my friend.

You and I are kind of in the same boat. I was going to go shopping with Amy but decided not to. She is is better shape medically than I am so she can do the toilet paper shuffle...lol

We have cancelled all travel plans with the RV this year and I will stick to farming and hanging close to the house for the near future and yes...

Mandatory restrictions on 'gatherings' are necessary because people cannot self police themselves. Works for me 110%. I'd like to see limits in ANY gathering at all and that includes relatives stopping by. You haven't a clue who might and who might not be a carrier, especially kids.

Since I am recovering from shoulder rotator cuff surgery, I am "quarantined" anyway. Just sitting at home and doing nothing. Boring!!
