B2650 black diesel exhaust

I was snowplowing with the B2650 and the front snow blower. Everything was great then I went to clean up the end of our driveway and all of a sudden thin black exhaust. No matter what I did, the black exhaust continued.

I've added some additive I keep on hand and I think it is helping.

Any thoughts on why this is happening?

I now have 10 hours on my machine.

Can the fuel air mixture be too rich? a y other thoughts

How many hours on the tractor?

Have you checked/cleaned/replaced the air filter?

Snow in the air inlet?

With only 10 hours on the tractor, the first thing I would check is the air intake, filter canister and filter. As said above, it is probably clogged with snow. If it is, clean it out, and be sure to thaw out the filter and dry it. It has been know to happen when snow blowing, and I believe that tractor has a intake that is at the front of the tractor making it more susceptible to clogging with snow. That's the easiest thing to check, and if it gets much more complicated than that, then the dealer should be looking at it if you only have 10 hours on it.

Black smoke: Too much fuel (unburnt in the compression)
White smoke: Burning coolant
No smoke: Motor not running

With only 10 hours on the 2650, like the other guys said.....you probably got a blocked intake.
With 10,000 hours, I'd look for a stuck open injector.

Ya gotta tell us what ya find (my money is on the snow [or puddle of water in the air cleaner])

Like everybody else said you most likely have snow/ice in the airfilter. Once you remove it and dry the filter you should be good to go. Removing the intake tube goining to the air filter will prevent the snow from being sucked in. You just need to remember to put it back once spring comes around. Another option is to use front and side skirts to block the snow from being sucked into the airfilter.

Snow blocking the air intake was a problem with some B2650's, naturally that richened the mixture causing the black smoke. I thought I read that Kubota redesigned or modified something on B2650 to reduce the chance of it occurring. There may be a retro fit kit available.

I added some diesel fuel conditioner. The tractor sat in the sunshine and any snow melting off of the machine. Since the additive, no issues what so ever. I did notice some white exhaust yesterday, but no more black exhaust.

I'll check the air intake the next time that happens.

I love this machine. Pure pleasure to operate!

I was having the same issue. I went to my dealer to ask if they had any suggestions. They said they had a service bulletin for the B3350 for the same issue that states to remove the intake tube. The dealer said to do the same for my 2650.

Like rcflyer mentioned, if you'd like a set of winter fronts (front and side covers) I'd be happy to help you out. You wouldn't need to mess with the air intake, and in addition you'd gain other benefits as well. Especially in your location. Right, but in my manual(I think) it states to remove the intake for the 3350 but does not refer to the 2650.

Do yourself a favor if you are snowblowing with a B2650 or maybe anything else and buy or invent some kind of front cover. The snow not only gets in the air intake but eventually covers the radiator and other structures with ice even if you take the air intake off. Life is easier if you don't have to clean or melt it off. Before I got one of birddoger' s covers I improvised one with a sheet, and magnets. Made all the difference.

A good way to prevent snow from getting into air filter chamber and choking air is to tape a nylon stocking over air intake location . will let air in and not snow and will not allow snow to melt and saturate paper filter element

frogzskin would be another option at the snorkel opening to keep snow out.use them on snowmobiles to let air in and keep snow out.

Bought this on Amazon, silicone adapter for a turbo. About $8.00 US.

Used stainless screws, top and bottom.

Sure thing. I wound up throwing a hose clamp on mine, but they fit pretty tightly. I haven't had to clean the loader arm or bucket since...
