My question is: My tractor setting level and cold shows a measurement on the Hydraulic oil dip stick of just a tad above the bottom mark. So, how much oil do I need to buy to get the dip stick reading above the middle of the stick?

While on it's face, your suggestion is valid; at my present rate of tractor usage, it would set in my shop from 7 ~ 10 years before I would need the rest. I'm probably going to buy a couple of quarts and see where it tops up. On another note, is it just me or does everyone have a problem seeing the fluid level on the dip stick?

You need to change the fluid and filter out regardless of the hours if your getting that little of use out of it.

#1 for warranty reasons and #2 you need to get the original breaking fluid out of it.

So you might want to rethink the quart or two and go with enough to change it out.

If yours is a 2018 model it's overdue!
SUDT2 is what you need.

Just turned 50 hours on the tractor; the maintenance manual and it says to change the oil out after 400 hours. Mine is a 4WD MANUAL tranny tractor. I did change the Hydraulic filter as the maintenance manual requires, but didn't state I needed to change the Hydraulic fluid. Did I read it wrong?

If your tractor is a year plus and you haven't changed the original hydraulic fluid out, then yes I would suggest you change the fluid and filter gain regardless of the hours.

Fluid sitting around in the tractor for that length of time will take in moisture which is harmful to all the systems.

And yes still SUDT2 regardless if it's geared or HST with that model. ;)

I don't think you read anything wrong. The owner's manual does specify hydraulic filter at fifty hours and complete hydraulic fluid change at 400. Wolfman seems to be saying you will collect water in the hydraulic fluid just from sitting and an added measure of security and longevity will be attained by an annual hydraulic fluid change. From this information I presume the added attention is even more critical for those who have the HST transmission.

That's kinda what I thought I read. So, if I follow the manual and observe the noted requirements, I shouldn't void any warranty, right?
I kinda thought the Hydraulic fluid got hot enough to vaporize any moisture anyhow.

First fluid change is the most important one of the tractors life. That's when you'll find lots of metal from the manufacturing process. I've bought 3 new tractors and all of them had a ton of trash when I change the fluid. Don't care what these new books say. They need a full service @50hrs.

I agree with Bulldog 100%. Besides fluid is way cheaper than a new motor.

Interestingly, my wife's new Sidekick, the fluid change (engine oil and transmission oil (SUDT2) is 30 hours, not even 50.

OK, just one more question: Do I need to replace the Hydraulic Filter I just put on the tractor; it has .3hr use?

You don't "need" to replace the 0.3h filter, but opinions will vary on wether or not you should. I personally would not.
My last tractor got a full transmission fluid change at 50h. My current L4060 did not, and will be changed at 400h regardless of calendar time. I am particular with my equipment, but yearly 11 gallon transmission fluid changes is not going to happen.

Thanks, appreciate the candid response. @ $47 just for the filter, I'm just going to spend the $170 for 7.5 gal of UDT2.

I'd say if you had an OCD personality you better!:D But other wise no.

What happens when someone borrows a neighbors implement and hooks it up the their tractor's hyd. system? Some minute amount of fluid from the borrowed implement's cyl. is now in your tractor. Or when you change hyd. fluid, you can't get all the old oil out without some serious effort. It's very seldom going to be perfect. Relax and enjoy the machine.

Pull the .3 hour old filter off and drain it and put it back on. ;)

I just performed my 50hr service a couple weeks ago and before doing so I called my dealer and asked them if I needed to change the hydraulic fluid and they informed me no.
That if they performed the 50 hr service they would only change the filter and top the fluid off. Mine is also a dt not a hydro
