Are any of you running a 72 inch finish mower behind your B2650 similar to the Landpride FDR1672 or Woods RD72? Any problems?

Someone on here tried a 72” rfm on his 2650, on a fairly steep lawn, and it was underpowered on the hills.

With that size tractor, I'd say 60" maximum width.

Well remember a lengthy thread on that topic.

Owner had tractor loaded down with loaded, oversized R-4 tires, FEL and 72" LP three point mounted finish mower. Needed low range even with no grass to cut in late winter.

Was simply expecting too much.

I would not go beyond 60" except in ideal conditions.

I dunno about a 72” rear mower but there was no problem whatsoever mowing high, thick, grass with my B2650 with a 72” mid mount mower.

I am maintaining an 8 acre fescue field weekly which is flat with some low rolling hills. I am running unloaded turf tires on my B2650. Id like to get as wide a cut as possible with a rear mower. I watched video of a guy pulling a heavy Landpride 2572 mower up some steep hills with oversized loaded tires and he struggled. My situation is quite a bit different hence my question.

In your case it will depend mostly on the mower load.

If you are mowing it weekly, you should be OK. With HST you can simply slow down if things get tough.

Could be a problem with any finish mower if conditions or circumstances allow the grass to get ahead of you. That's why they make rough cut (bush hog type) mowers.

You are right about the owner having oversized tires, mowing on steep slopes, and he was also running a FDR 2572 which takes more power. Not a good set up for the tractor and he was not realistic on his set up. I have run a FDR 1672 for 4 years on property out back with my B2650 and have no problem with power at all. I have the mower set at 4.5" and mow at 8-9"s which is a couple times a month. The tractor handles it with no problem. Been a very good set up for me.

I don't have one, but I can't see why you'd have any issue turning 72" deck on flat grass. You could always take a smaller bite if you had to. I think you'd be fine.
