So I bought a pair of Titan Hi Traction Lug tires in 7-14 off of EBAY for the front of my Deere, with a loader.
The add said tires are in good condition.
I paid $75 + shipping for a total of $122. New, they are about $160 a piece. I saved a decent dollar buying used, as the tread is good to go, with only minor wear.
However, what I was unaware of, is each tires sidewall is showing cracking issues, which you could not see in the pics they took in the ad. You can tell the tires aren't dry rotted.
Would you run these tires as is, with tubes, on a machine with a front end loader?

For a green tractor, sure they be fine lol. Just kidding. I would think you would be fine, especially with tubes in them. Is your tractor stored inside or covered? They might get worse sitting out in the sun. I have seen car/truck tires look way worse then that and people still drive them.

Do tractor tires have a date code stamped on them like a car/truck tire? I’ve never paid attention to mine. Might get an idea how old they are. I’ll look at mine next time I go outside.

So I did go look and they are stamped like a car tire minus the dot code on a car tire. Mine are stamped 4614,meaning they were made in the 46th week off 2014. First two digits being week of the year and last two being the year.

side wall rubber is mostly cosmetic. It is the fabric carcass and inner rubber that is the strength and air seal.

However, cracking of the sidewall suggests that the rubber has aged.

'Not an issue for me... the Fordson E27n sits on rubber that was not new in 1982.

Still holding air 'forever' , and providing good grip ....

New tires may not be constructed of such durable materials ;-)

Ahhh technology!

Haha, whatever.
Yeah i keep it stored in a barn. I checked and they have a date code of 0308, almost 11 years.
They don't show any checking like they're dry rotted, just large cracks.

SRG, if you think those are bad I wish I had a picture of the tires on my 730 Case with a Westendorf loader. I move 1100-1500# bales with it, two at a time, front and back. I figure when they give up the ghost, I replace them. Until then, I just use them! I bet they are every bit of 25 years old.

I'm thinking about some retreaded 22ply airplane tires when these go.

I would run them on mine. Have seen much worse on cars and trucks that haul and run down the highway at 80mph.

Btw what part of IL you from if you don’t mind me asking. I was born and raised in the corn and bean fields about 30-40 miles north of Peoria.

I wanted to try to fish there when I was up there, spent most my time on the river and mazonia/braidwood. Don’t miss it though besides the family.

Sidewall cracking is usually caused by Ozone or running underinflated. I'd run them but keep and eye on them. Seen a lot worse before.

Think I'd examine the inside of the carcass as well.

And that was my thought too, underinflated. Because they don't show any signs of dry rot or sun damage. The inside carcass looks to be pretty well intact from what i can tell.

I don't blame ya.

Regarding Lake Shabbona, sometimes we go have a picnic, rent a canoe and just paddle around for a few hours. But the fishing is great too. You can catch pretty much everything in there.

I bought my tractor with the original rear tires on it. The sidewalls look awful - really cracked, but still hold air/calcium and have excellent tread. I'm thinking about having them foam filled and probably will get 15 years out of them.

You got what you paid for. You wanted cheap tiresand didn't mind buying from a source from which you'd have no recourse. It's the hazard of Ebay. They look fine for off road use.
