Just wondering if anyone has any experience buying glasses on line. My insurance only covers them every four years which means I'm paying out of pocket more than I would like. Last week I had a pair of progressives fall out of my pocket while I was wearing sun glasses working out the road with the tractor. I didn't notice until I got back home so I went back out the road only to find them DOA, just didn't take well to being run over by the tractor. I'm very hard on glasses so just wondering if it would be worth while giving online a try for some spares. My new ones will take a couple weeks to come in and over $300.00 for a new pair I'm looking for some cheap backups.

I have not ordered or purchased from these folks but I've been told the prices are very competitive and good quality. Might check them out.

Another option is your local Wal-mart Optical. My wife has purchased from them several times after she has the prescription the the ophthalmologist. She's been happy with what she got.

Thanks D2Cat I'll check them out. I just ordered a pair from Wall-Mart because my wife also gets hers there and is happy with them.

I have a couple of pairs of DeWalt safety, reader, sunglasses. Very light, very protective, and saves me from carrying two pair of glasses. 20 bucks or so on Amazon.

Never bought online, but you need better insurance I can't imagine 4 years

Exam is 10.00 copay allowed 1 a year
I'm allowed lenses once per year $25.00 copay
Frames every 2 years up to 130.00
Progressive lenses does cost me extra $109.00 ish , my insurance only covers line bifocals
insurance is VSP for Wife and I its $4.63 every 2 weeks

They have some places around here that offer 2 for 1 on glasses at around $80. Haven't tried them since my eye insurance through work is pretty darn good, and I'm getting prescription safety glasses at the same time. Mine covers lenses replacement every year and new frames very other year. So I just skip a year on my eye exam and get new glasses and frames every other year if my rx has changed.

Funny about the DOA comment. I had my safety glasses hung on my belt when I was heading out to the service truck. Truck was blocking the gate in the yard so I had to toss my stuff into the truck, open the gate, pull the truck thru and close it since it was after hours. Well I forgot about my glasses when I climbed into the truck to pull it thru the gate. Pulled thru, and went to close the gate and saw my glasses laying on the ground, twisted in a ball with the lenses laying there as well.

Apparently when they fell off my belt, they went under the truck and got caught by one of the tires on the rear. Truck is an F550 service body and weighs in at 14,500 lbs :D I know Wiley X sunglasses/ safety glasses are pretty darn good with the ballistic lenses. Just didn't realize how good. After seeing how they held up to that goof, I'm a firm believer in them. I'll add a picture tomorrow of them. Once I straightened the frames back out, it looks like someone just popped the lenses out of them. I keep forgetting to run them by the optometrist office to see if they can send them back to Wiley X for repair since they are my only safety glasses with bifocals.

Dittos on the DeWalt or similar cheater glasses and sunglasses. I have several and they work awesome in the shop or on the tractor. Costco has two pairs of sunglasses made by Foster Grant in different cheater scripts for $12 on sale, regularly $15. Foster Grant glasses are well made and the lenses are high quality. I use FG exclusively as cheaters on the computer or in the shop. No headaches from eye strain like most Chickenese brands. You can get FG sunglasses or cheaters off ebay or Amazon.

Maybe a glasses chain/strap/ropey-doodle so when you take them off they stay attached to you while working? I have specific older goggles I wear when working or driving Orange.

Don't think their going to help me much. I only need them for distance or at arms length. I alway take them off to read.

Daughter orders from Zenni and has had no issues. So I ordered a pair last week just to give it a try. Just using them for watching TV at home so I went with the cheapest pair I could find. Somewhere around $35 delivered. I'll post my review when I get them in a couple of weeks.

Well I finally got around to ordering last week and like your daughter I ordered from Zenni, still cheaper than ordering from here in Canada. Ended up ordering 2 pair because the second pair just single vision were half price. I ordered them with all the bells and whistles short of air conditioning:D and they were still cheaper than what I payed for one pair here even with the exchange and shipping. Hopefully I'll have them in a week or 2 and I'll update you then.

I wear glasses all day, have for 35 years. After my original optometrist retired he recommended a young optometrist that was just starting out. He knew what he was doing but wasn’t nice to his staff and when I had a billing problem he basically said, too bad. They charged me twice, the exact same amount but I had only been to see him once. I was done after that.

I get new glasses every 2-3 years depending if my rx has changed at all. With my astigmatism, which is really bad and the fact I won’t buy the cheapest lenses or frames mine can cost up to or over $500. So I was looking for a cheaper option.

You need to have your prescription available to order from them. I went to the local eye center, they have offices all over our area, I’m sure a place like Walmart would work just as well. They will want to sell you glasses, this is where most of their profit comes from. They weren’t thrilled when I asked about getting a copy of my prescription, the optometrist actually left part of it off. I had to go back for the completed prescription.

Anyway, I decided to take a chance. Since I had called and talked to a very nice lady from discountglasses.com. She said, they had a full replacement guarantee for 365 days for any reason.

Here’s what I ordered. ,
Stetson ST 344 @ $89.00
Anti-reflective coating $10
Roll and polish edge finish $10
Transition lens package- grey $69.00
Sales tax $1.34
Free shipping
Total $135.32

Received my new glasses and all was good! Until I scratched them enough that it was bothering me. Having forgotten about the replacement policy I called to see about just buying new lenses. No need they said, we will ship a new pair out as soon as they’re done, all I had to do was ship my old ones back. That was almost exactly one year ago today and so far so good with the second pair.

You can get cheaper deals on their sight, I’m just kinda picky since I wear them all day every day for years at a time.

Nice town, one of my very close friends lives in Stockton Springs.
Hopefully my wife and I will be able to jump on the bike and make a run that way and as long as the good Lord see's fit maybe travel a little further and get to meet some of the friends I haven't met yet on this forum.;)

Just received my glasses from Zenni today and couldn't be happier with the fit and quality.
