Looking for help with L2050

New guy here, first post.

I just picked up an L2050 cheap. Took a while to get it running as it sat for several years and the seller had filled the cylinders with transmission fluid. I pulled the injectors and pumped out the fluid. A lot of cranking with the glow plugs on and it finally blew tons of black smoke and now seems to run fine.

I have these questions. Thanks in advance.

Should I expect to need the glow plugs to start in Florida weather? My other Kubota, an L2250, never needs them even at 30 F.

The trans/differential housing has two fill ports. Isn't this just one sump and either fill port goes to the same place? Is there a place to check the fluid level besides the sight glass? It is fogged badly. The oil level is only about an inch below the fill port in front of the seat, which I suspect is way way overfilled.

Does the 3 point lift operate from the transmission pump (if there is one...) or from the engine mounted pump. The lift is not working, or barely anyway, so i think I'll drain the fluid and get the level correct and clean the screen also.

Is the knob under the seat, and on top of the lift cover, only for locking the lift up? I'm not familiar with that function. My L2250 holds an implement up for weeks without a lock.

What is the engine oil capacity?

I do have a manual on the way....

Thanks again.

Think I answered my own question on the glow plugs. Seems like they are needed. Engine off for a few hours and it still needed the glow plugs before starting up. So either they are normally needed or I have low compression. Engine sounds perfect though. Fuel and filter are new just today and system is bled.

Also looking for alternator/regulator wiring schematic and wondering if anyone has retrofit a single wire alternator like a Delco SI type or similar.

Steve, welcome. The sight glass fits in the side of the transmission with an interference fit. You can buy a new (clear) one for about $7. Pop out the old one and push in the new.

Probably a blessing the PO filled the cyl with auto trans fluid. Kept water out and no rust to form from setting and rings free.

Yep glow all the time on that engine.

Yes both fill port go to the same location.
No other place to check fill level.

The complete hydraulic system is run by the Hydraulic pump located on the back of the injection pump.
The three point control under the seat controls the drop speed and yes will also lock it in any position.
sometimes if it's sat for any length of time the seals on the three point cylinder will get dry and they either will reseal with use or you'll need to rebuild it.

Thanks for the link. No schematics there for my model but I did find part numbers I needed.

Thanks. The sight glass gets installed from outside the trans case, presses inward and has an o-ring seal?

Sorry 'bout that Mister dude. I got all excited because I ASSUMED diagrams would be there, not just harness lay-outs. Oh well, the wsm will Shirley cover that; you think?

On this L2050 model, the specs I find call for 25 quarts in the trans/rear. The sight glass would be covered at probably 10 or 12 quarts. 25 quarts brings the level to about 2" below the top of the trans case, looking thru the fill plug just in front of the seat. So is the sight glass only for showing a very low level? I figured with the right amount of oil the level would be at the center of the sight glass.

Cleaning the sump screen fixed the 3 pt not working issue, so that was wonderful.

I don't know your tractor, but did you drain/pull the plugs from the axle housings if it has them? Was your 3pt hitch down.
