Planning on getting a 20' chain to keep with the tractor, just wondering how everyone stores their chains (not tire).

Did you actually find orange zip ties?
I cheated......painted them!

If you raise the load all the way up - and bounce around - those thick ties will break, they break about every 25 hours or so, going to go with large hose clamps next, found some that are about 6" diameter and snug them as apposed to super tight.;)

I went terribly low tech. Your basic 5 gallon pail with the hooks slipped over the edge. Tossed in the FEL or on the BH foot platform for transport.

I know before I fire up my tractor if I am going to need the chains. 90% of the time, I do not, so not having them 'at the ready' works for me. If I needed to have them handy all the time, the PVC pipe is certainly the way to go.:)

My one 'thing' I did was have a ROPs tool box. My dealer gave me a Kubota one. The bracket is very sturdy, the box was garbage. I have since replaced it with a .50 cal ammo box. Holds a knife, a screwdriver with tips, a couple of large adjustable wrenches and one of those 'hand chain saws' as well as odds and ends. The box is a handy arm rest for backing up!;)

Nice painting of the PVC, BTW, melds in well!

saw on another forum one time that someone slipped some pvc pipe in the hole in the loader frame connecting the two loader arms. PVC pipe with screw on caps.

I use ammo cans, I also have a couple of shackles and other parts in the ammo can which helps with rigging. I also keep extra chains hanging on a rafter in my shed. My tractor only gets used on my property, so worst case I need to run back to the shed. I am more interested in figuring out a place to mount some tools (wrenches and pliers) than chains, as I use the tools far more often when I didn't plan it than chains.

85Hokie, you haul enough chain you don't need wheel weights.

Check with your friendly local heating an AC man for some nice metal clamps. I find them all the time at garage sales. I use them to clamp martin houses to post.

I've got enough chains in enough places that storage is never an issue for me. But losing them in wood pile, scrap pile, brush or prairie grass is. So... the first thing I do with any chain is paint both ends (hooks plus 8" or more) with high vis rattle can spray paint.

If the chain is in a closed container you may want to get something like this to keep it from rusting

Russel,

I left a chain outside and it got wet and nasty - I said F it and placed it in the tube......a week later, well I paid the price! I clean it up and coated it with an AMSOIL spray for metal treatment..... I do have small holes in the bottom but you are right, lock a wet chain in a enclosed container......bad news will follow!:p

One time I had chain just in the FEL bucket. Enroute to do something, I tilted the bucket to smooth an area, forgetting about the chain. I got to my final destination and 'What!!! No chain!!!' Seems I sort of buried it when I did the smoothing. This is why I am, not allowed off the property and it is preferred I stay in the fenced in area.:p

Just wait until you find one of those lost chains with the rotary cutter.
