My 2008 mx5100 has showed signs of the battery going south this morning it wouldn't crank without a boost. What do I need to look for in a replacement battery?

Take the old one out ....measure it's physical size on the outside, some battery places have very tight fits;) - go to the store and buy the same size or similar size external shape.....but with the HIGHEST CCA you wish to pay for. Higher cold cranking available amps is what you are looking to buy. Check carefully the warranty.....some word it in such a way that 3 years down the road....they will give you 10% off the price of a new one, some will replace the battery after one year ....and so on!

Charge the new battery before placing too - a sloooow trickle charge not a high amp charge. Many batteries sit on a shelf a bit, thus losing a bit a charge ;)

Thanks for that info I'll stay away from the low CCA batteries.

+1 on the previous comments. If there IS extra room, get the biggest battery with the most CCA's you can fit. Also, a battery intended for off-road use (ag, construction) may cost more but, will handle shock and vibration better than an over-the-road battery.

Believe it or not. I have a L3830HST I bought new in 2006. It currently has around 700 hours and still has the original battery. I can’t believe it but I just started it it’s in the 20’s now but lows have been in the single digits for the last week. I know I’m on borrowed time

When you shop for the replacement battery make sure that the positive and negative terminal posts are on the same side as your old battery. Size is not all that matters.

I've been curious about the quality of the Kubota batteries the dealer sells. My factory battery in my L3000 lasted 11 years but it's used nearly every day.

I put a blue top Optima in my M9000. I love the cranking power but the price sux.

I'd be more worried about the price. I get my replacement batteries at Batteries+.

Just like oil Kubota doesn't make batteries. Size, CCA's and posts matter but there are batteries and then there are Batteries. I'll be ready for one soon too.

Been using batteries that have posts on wrong side but cable still gets there. Just a pain.
Recently bought Duracell battery and AFTER went to their site and found they had my old tractor 1978 L185 listed with the posts where I need them. Too bad I was late looking.
Many good batteries come with 3 year free replacement warranty and 2 year pro rated.
I suggest to buy the biggest and largest CCA.
David
PS my Original battery from Kubota was a Panasonic and it did last a good long time
Most batteries have a group size on them Yours may have and you can just look for that size when you go shopping.
