This may seem like a weird question and maybe one that can only be answered by speaking with specific dealers. With that said, when it comes to servicing; do most of you trailer your tractors to the dealer or does the dealer pick them up?

I ask, because as I stated in my intro post, I'm researching what tractor to buy and I am also researching what truck to buy when I retire and want to know if I need to limit my truck search to only pickups that are capable of towing the tractor I purchase..........

A simple answer would be, new machine under warranty, MAKE them come and get it......it is their "baby" to fix!:)

IF you can turn a wrench - the servicing can be done at home. Changing oil, filters and general "stuff" is rather easy. However there are times when you need to haul it too!;)

AS for trailer.....many will tell you to go big or not get a trailer!

I would focus on the tractor first, a BX series can be hauled on a large single axle if the axle specs for the trailer will handle it. Now once you add the FEL and or back hoe and MMM......it gets beyond the single axle trailer size.

If you are going B's or L's then I would get a double axle trailer, brakes on ONE axle or BOTH is better.

WHEN you get a truck, make sure the towing package is on it, along with the brake controller (unless you can do that yourself) - typically a 2" ball or better a 2 5/16" ball in a under bumper hitch.

What are you "needs" for the tractor? What will you be doing with it? Many will tell you all the good points and "bad" points for each model. You need a engine size the gets into the DPF and all that fun stuff? Or can you do with something under 25 hp (or where ever the cutoff is)

Tell us what you are planning and we can help with the choices!;):)

Once mine were delivered that was it for me. I do my on work to mine.

I guess the big question is do you plan to haul it for yourself to do work. A truck and trailer is a lot of expense if you don't plan to haul it for work. I use mine away from home so a truck and trailer is a must.

If I didn't do that it would probably be worth while to just let the dealer handle the transport.

If you’re thinking about a trailer soley for transporting the tractor for service, then it will be cheaper to pay the dealer to get it.
I also agree with the “go big or go home” comment. There is nothing more stressful than towing at, or over ratings. My retirement truck was an F250 with towing / camper package, which has served me well. Unfortunately my new tractor is too much for the 15 year old 7k landscape trailer that I hauled my previous L3410 with. Looking for a 10k hydraulic tilt trailer now...

sdk1968, you mention you take your tractor and pick it up, about 100 miles. If you don't wait there for the work to get done and have to come back another day, your now at 200 miles. Almost better to pay the $100 and keep busy doing something else.

D2,

yeah .. up & back, up & back... about 100miles TOTAL & at 17mpg that comes to less than $20 of fuel & a little bit of my time to save $80..

you are right: wouldnt take off work to do it. but if im off? why throw away $80? im a poor boy.

(you did see where i said my sales girl was "hot".. & a friend... right?) ;)

EDIT NOTE: because i hate being inaccurate ... google mapped it.. its 25.8 miles each way... so its 103.2 miles total

Now wait a minute. If it's 25.8 miles each way...they'll come and get it and return it for $51.60!!!! and you stay home and take a nap.

So it becomes clear you either go to see the sales lady, or you just need to get to town.:D

LMAO.... you guys slay me. i love this forum. great people with good positive interaction instead of the usual keyboard warrior stuff.

NO
, its not more than $20 in gas at 103.2 miles... "on paper" thats only about $18 worth of fuel in my truck.(& i get to pull my trailer, another toy)

YES.
Lesa is a fine looking lady & a friend to boot. nothing wrong with having a pretty woman take your money..... it happens to me every time my wife says: hey babe, i need............

on the:
"them" picking it up at $1 a mile: they charge you that for EVERY MILE both ways... BOTH TIMES= $100 (103 miles) if they come to my house. from shop to your house, from your house to shop & then from shop back to you, from you back to shop.. STILL 103 miles total.

PS: i dont know if all dealers do this? or just my little local dealer(Ricers) who wants to keep all of their local business vs it go to the "other" Kubota dealer(PARCS) who is 40 miles away the other direction.

the good news is that like we said in the other thread about the service...... unless i really screw something up? they shouldnt see my baby again until it hits 400hrs.

for a "play" tractor like mine? that should be a long time from now.

This is just a side note. I completely understand the reasoning for hauling yourself ;)

But $1.00 per mile for hauling is cheap!!!!! Going rate for truck to haul is usually $2.50 ish.

Of course it is taken out of context!

Is she a blonde or brunette? yup - does make a difference!:D:)

Thanks for the input folks. I guess what my main concern was whether or not most dealers offer the pick up and delivery service. It seems that they do--for a price.

With that said, buying a trailer just to take tractor back and forth to dealer would not be cost effective. It would take a long time for the amount of money saved by not spending it on pick up and delivery charges to off-set the cost of a trailer.

You got me thinking and I appreciate it!

HOkie: Lesa is a long, lean, Blonde, mid 40's.... knows how to wear her clothes & present herself. Fine looking lady that any man would be proud to say is his other half. Just enough attitude to keep you from getting bored.

shes a barrel racer on the side & has a horse farm & leather shop not too far from me & she has 3 Kubota's!!

Eddie: you are absolutely correct. a GOOD dealer will always try to help you like the guys on this board do.

IF you already have a trailer? its great to use it & we work mine at every chance, plus i haul cars for people for a few $'s here & there.. as long as it dont get scratched or dirty.

But if you dont have one? NO i wouldnt buy one just for the tractor.

Kubota doesn't pay transportation. Read the warranty statement in the exclusions section/page. Page 5 I think?

Now that said, some of you guys get your stuff picked up for free. I want to know how, considering Kubota doesn't pick up the tab on it? Service contract through the dealer, or?
