Daylight saving time

Here it is 5:20PM and dark enough working outside requires lights.

I am reminded of the old Indian saying regarding "Daylight Savings"... “Only the government would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.”

You know, I must be one of the few that loves it !!
YES - it does take my body a few days to get back use to it - but for going outdoors in the spring and the summer, that extra hour is wonderful.

AND anyone who has ever coached a spring sport at the high school level - that extra daylight is a godsend for practicing stopping at 6:30 rather than 5:30 due to darkness.

In the colder months - I do not wish to be outside when the darkness falls! I guess as I get older - the cold sucks more and more.

I love DST. I'd rather have more afternoon daylight time then morning when I'm sleeping. Why do I want it bright @ 6:00am ??
I hate cooking a steak on the grill with my headlamp on in the evening...suks

Yup. I always thought DST was silly, even when I lived back east. Out here we have a lot more sun than most places, so it works for us not to change our clocks.
Complicates things a little when I need to call back east- "now are they three hours ahead, or only two?- carry the 4, subtract .7, multiply by 167.6, subtotal, add tax..."

If this DST is such a good thing why the duce am I up at 0330, drinking coffee waiting for the sun to come up. If it wasnt so much work to get undressed I'd go back to bed,, But I have to go VOTE this morning then off to see the Doc about my leg,,

yeah you right....

but at the same time i used to not be bothered on the sleep end (cause i never really sleep)...

now that im older? it takes me a few days to adjust to the different getting up time, STILL waking up at the wrong time & clock watching. aaarrrggg.

Agreed! I wish we would just "spring forward" and never "fall back." It's a PITA.

Just buy a couple of houses in diffrent time zones so you can jump into the same time frame!

I do not mind 'fall back' Extra hour of sleep and all. Spring forward bites. One year, I had a Sunday 6 AM flight. I forgot about 'spring forward until a few days before. My 6 AM flight was (to my internal clock) 5 AM. I was not happy.

Before moving up here I lived in Phoenix, AZ for 21 years.
The swing of sun light between summer and winter and day length is much less drastic in Phoenix than it is here.

North Idaho
Winter Day length 8:20:01
Sunrise: 7:34:56
Sunset: 3:54:38
Summer day length 16:05:29
Sunrise: 4:45:07
Sunset: 8:51:15
Almost a 8 hour difference between summer and winter day length!
And it's light from 3:04am to 10:31pm in the summer

Phoenix Arizona
Winter day length 9:56:10
Sunrise: 7:28:26
Sunset: 5:24:36
Summer day length 14:22:23
Sunrise: 5:17:52
Sunset: 7:42:13
About a 4 1/2 hour difference between summer and winter day length.

So daylight savings time is a big benefit for us, means the wife gets to drive to work more mornings in the light and that's a big deal with all the wildlife and weather up here!

That is sooooo bad!

Having spent a few years in the thumb of Michigan I heard hundreds of polish jokes, but the best ones were always from this old Polish guy and 99% of the time they were about his wife!

When I think of all the life altering changes in 69 years, the effort of changing the clock twice a year sort of pales in comparison. For example, how do you compare changing from rotary dial phones to smart phones, to changing the clock twice a year? And for the time challenged Polish, a lot of new clocks and all cell phones automatically change time.
