Re: How the pellet making going?

I assume you are talking about wood pellets for pellet stoves. I actually got mine for the cheapest price in 5 years, right at $3.68 a bag, picked up two pallets when they had a promotion at the co-op. In my town we have one choice as to brand, two lumber stores and the co-op are the only sellers and they stock the same. If I want any other brand I have to drive 100 mile round trip and with my F250 460 that amounts to $$$ gas and time. We have learned to get them early, as soon as they come on sale which is when they start getting their truck loads in.

Re: How the pellet making going?

A few years back I looked at one of those contraptions, a buddy of mine wanted to make organic fertilizer in the off season to keep it busy year round. With the cost and reviews it did not look viable for us. One downfall was getting the correct type of material/sawdust with the correct moisture content.
I really like heating with a pellet stove, mine is a Whitfield going on 20 years service. I have replaced parts and pieces, never anything catastrophic enough to replace it. I really want a Harman when this one kraps out, figured it has paid it's dues but it just won't die, lol.

Yeah I keep thinking about a pellet stove, and what the cost is, VS free wood and what it takes to get it cut split stacked,, and Im gettin a little long in the tooth, and like you say I have a USSC wood/coal burner and it just keeps going, maybe I ll just reach a point were I ll push the thermostat up and not worry about it any more,,, nawwwww I dont think so :D

Had enough. As in its no longer viable to fight with that machine. Moisture is a big issue. At a shop rate of 70/hour i am further ahead to buy. And to top it off a local hutterite colony is making them. I have a contact and looking at 150/ton.
Anybody want a pellet mill, cheap??

Well that pretty much sucks Frank, its not like you havent put the time and work in on that project. I had to look up what a hutterite colony was. Well its hard to beat the slave labor they have, based on a belief I guess.

Like Skeets said, you put much effort into it and I was very interested in it. But for that price....holy smokes!

5 ton stored here.....

Today i went to the colony,170 per ton in a tote.
Over $6.00 from my regular supplier.
The pellets are 3/8” and 30 to 40% hardwood. Gave me a pail full to try. Im not even thinking about making pellets now.
Friend has been saving jugs he gets cat litter in,saved up 25 or so. Perfect for the bulk pellets.
